SUMMARY:Exhibition:More than Gray: Reimagining Early America in Full Color
DESCRIPTION:The American past was lived in full color\, but this vibrant history can be easily missed in surviving evidence. You can’t deny that there’s something about a black-and-white photograph that feels… stuffy. With portraits showing people with their shirts buttoned right to the neck and everything in shades of gray and brown\, our imaginations can incline to thinking of the past as a bit staid\, if not downright dull. But look a little closer\, and you’ll see signs that the fashion choices available to those who came before us were more colorful than you might first think. From the fabrics they wore\, to the games they played\, or the books they read\, their world was alive with bright hues. This exhibit invites you to reimagine history with a fuller color palette and picture the vibrancy and joy that just might be hidden behind the unsmiling photographs.\n\nExhibition opening weekdays from 12-4.

SUMMARY:Performance:Tiffany Ng\, carillon
DESCRIPTION:University Carillonist Tiffany Ng performs on the Charles Baird Carillon\, an instrument of 53 bronze bells located inside the Burton Memorial Tower. The largest bell\, which strikes the hour\, weighs 12 tons\, while the smallest bell\, 4½ octaves above\, weighs just 15 pounds.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Charles Baird Carillon at noon every weekday that classes are in session\, followed by visitor Q&A with the carillonist. The bell chamber may be accessed via a combination of elevator and stairs. Take the elevator to the highest floor possible (floor 8)\, and then climb two flights of stairs (39 steps) to the bell chamber (floor 10). Hearing protection earmuffs are provided for visitors. Be prepared to walk on ice and snow in the bell chamber during winter. Built in 1936\, the Charles Baird Carillon is not ADA accessible. Visitors with mobility concerns are invited to visit the Lurie Carillon.d

DESCRIPTION:Campus Mind Works\, in collaboration with the College of Engineering's C.A.R.E. Center and the Newnan Academic Advising Center\, is excited to offer free mental health education and support groups for all students! These groups are facilitated by a U-M employee. The first half is an educational presentation on a mental health topic and provide space to share your experience with others during the second half. Topics change every month depending on student needs.\n\nJanuary's topic is on time management and stress. Start the semester off by learning more about how time management strategies can reduce levels of stress and various tools to help with that! Also hear from other students about their experiences with stress and time management.\n\nThis wellness will be held in-person on North Campus at Chrysler Center in room 265. Registration is NOT required for the in-person wellness group\, but is recommended to ensure food is available for everyone in attendance. Lunch will be served.\n\nFollowing the live group presentation\, the asynchronous presentation will be updated at www.campusmindworks.org.

DESCRIPTION:SchoolHouse Connection and Poverty Solutions at the University of Michigan are excited to launch updated Data Profiles on Child and Youth Homelessness\, which now include four years of federal homelessness data. Users can examine data at the state\, county\, local educational agency\, U.S. Congressional district\, and state legislative district levels. \n\nWe’ve also added new features that allow users to explore which school districts are likely to be under-identifying students experiencing homelessness\; which districts are likely severely under-funded to serve students experiencing homelessness\; and chronic absence rates and high school graduation rates for homeless students compared to state averages. \n\nThis webinar will demonstrate how the data profiles can be used to educate the public and policymakers\, and to improve practices.\n\nPresenters:\nBarbara Duffield – Executive Director\, SchoolHouse Connection\nJennifer Erb-Downward – Director of Housing Stability Programs and Policy Initiatives\, Poverty Solutions at the University of Michigan

During the session\, we will be working together to build a database and map for affected properties all over the County\, helping us better reckon with our complete history. This event is a partnership between Ann Arbor Housing For All and FutureRoot\, and co-sponsored by the Ginsberg Center.\n\nNo experience is necessary\, just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help make a difference in our community!
