SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Student Seminar in Dynamics\, Geometry\, and Topology: Poincare Conjecture
DESCRIPTION:The (generalized) Poincare conjecture is one of the most important problems in mathematics and has guided the development of the field of topology for over a century. It asserts that an n dimensional homotopy sphere is isomorphic to S^n in the appropriate category (topological\, PL\, or smooth). We will discuss the history of this conjecture and some of the tools that have been used in proving different cases of the conjecture.
