SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Conversations Across Continents: Manuel Quezon Papers
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a conversation across continents to celebrate the opening of the Manuel Quezon Papers online. \n\nQuezon (1878-1944)\, first president of the Philippines\, fought for independence throughout his career. Despite the importance of Quezon's archive\, improving access to the material has been a long journey. This digital collection is the latest step forward.\n\nThis conversation brings together archivists who worked on the original Quezon materials as well as scholars who have used the collection for their research. Interviewed by Dr. Ricky Punzalan\, they will explore the significance of the Quezon papers and what online access means for their future use. \n\n“The digitization of the microfilmed Quezon papers is an important step in making the study of Philippine history\, particularly the American colonial and commonwealth periods of the country\, more accessible to anyone\,” says Ricky Punzalan\, Director of U-M’s Museum Studies Program\, Associate Professor of Information\, and a Filipino scholar. “I am happy to see that [the Bentley] has made a crucial step to highlight its Philippine collections\, build partnerships based on consultation with institutions in the Philippines\, and collaborate with Filipino scholars.”\n\nSpeakers include:\n\nFe Angela M. Verzosa (Retired Librarian and Archivist\, one of the librarians who processed the Quezon Papers at the National Library of the Philippines)\n\nDr. Francis A. Gealogo (Professor\, Ateneo de Manila University Department of History)\n\nVeronica Sison (Ph.D. student at UC Berkeley Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies). \n\nPlease note: this event takes place in the morning in the United States and in the evening in the Philippines.

DESCRIPTION:Resistance Is Fertile honors the founding moment of the Institute for Research on Women & Gender\, while speaking to the present. The institute was established because faculty members believed that research on women\, gender\, and sexuality required an institutional commitment to thrive. That belief was itself a form of resistance—to disciplinary silos\, to marginalization\, to the idea that such scholarship was peripheral.\n\nThis theme reminds us that resistance is not merely reactive\; it is constructive. When rooted in collaboration and sustained through infrastructure\, it produces knowledge that reshapes disciplines\, institutions\, and public life.\n\nThis exhibit celebrates 30 years of IRWG—its history\, its programs\, and the people whose vision and labor built it into what it is today. Through archival materials\, milestones\, and stories\, we trace the evolution of an institute that has continually expanded the boundaries of research in women\, gender\, and sexuality.\n\nThis exhibit centers growth\, collaboration\, and intellectual creativity—honoring the sustained efforts\, bold ideas\, and collective care that have shaped IRWG’s legacy and continue to guide its future.\n\nHosted and sponsored by the Institute for Research on Women and Gender and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies\, U-M. \n\nLocated on the first floor of Lane Hall (204 S. Do you dread others evaluating your work or avoid opportunities for critical feedback? Do you have trouble accepting praise or acknowledging your accomplishments? Do you worry about being exposed as an academic fraud? Have you ever questioned whether you belong at Michigan? Thoughts such as these are hallmarks of impostor thinking and are more common among graduate students than you realize. However\, they don't have to overshadow your academic and professional journey.Join us for this interactive workshop\, during which we will share insights from impostorism scholarship and provide research-based strategies for combating your impostor thoughts and feelings.By the end of this workshop\, you will be able to:Define impostorism and highlight the variety of ways individuals and groups are most impacted.Discuss individual\, system\, and institution level factors that contribute to impostorism.Recognize maladaptive thought patterns and coping strategies that exacerbate impostor experiences.Access tools and strategies to help interrupt your impostor cycle (all participants will receive a digital strategies workbook).This workshop is intended for Master's students.
