DESCRIPTION:Join us for an informative workshop on creating and managing accessible websites. This session will provide a practical introduction to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)\, along with best practices for web content editors\, including writing effective alt text\, creating descriptive links\, and ensuring sufficient color contrast. \n\nParticipants will also explore key structural practices for accessible web design\, such as using headings\, page regions\, tables\, lists\, and other elements effectively. We’ll discuss how web accessibility supports users who rely on keyboard navigation and highlight useful accessibility tools for both content editors and developers. \n\nNo technical experience or familiarity with HTML is required. However\, some concepts may be especially relevant for those who work frequently in web design\, development\, or digital content management.\n\nAmerican Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) captioning services will be provided. SUMMARY:Exhibition:“Who Counts? A History of Voting in America”
DESCRIPTION:Changes over the course of the nineteenth century in how Americans voted\, from voice vote to public ballot box to private voting booth\, also saw changes in the material culture that surrounded voting. Ballots and ballot boxes\, campaign pins and ribbons\, blank lists and pre-printed party tickets\, lanterns and banners–the creative forces of the American print industry filled the country’s cities and small towns with the ephemera of electioneering.\n\nAs you look at the items in this exhibit\, think about what they tell us about how Americans in the past felt about voting\, and about how voting felt. How did Election Days feel when they were full of parades and music and public drinking? What was it like to vote when everyone around you knew who you voted for? And\, most of all\, who counted as a voter\, and who did the counting?\n\nOn view September 11-December 22\, weekdays from 12-4 pm.
