SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Flash Talk | *Ancient Abstractions*
DESCRIPTION:Greek and Roman art is typically known for its lifelike marble statues\, but ancient artists also played with color\, pattern\, and shape in ways that feel surprisingly modern. This virtual Flash Talk introduces curator Nicola Barham’s *Ancient Abstractions*—a new special exhibition that looks beyond naturalism to reveal Roman art that today would be considered abstract. Bringing together works from the Kelsey Museum and other US collections\, the exhibition shows that the visual world of ancient Rome was far more varied than we often imagine.\n\nKelsey Museum Flash Talks are 15-minute Zoom lectures by Kelsey curators\, staff members\, researchers\, graduate students\, and guests talking about their recent research or current projects. Each presentation is followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. Flash Talks are free and open to all visitors.\n\nTo register for this lecture\, fill out the form at https://forms.gle/DgwhcoF2rtRqswyb7. Zoom log-in information will be provided upon registration. Please sign up by 9:30 AM the day of the event to ensure you receive a confirmation email containing the access code.

SUMMARY:Well-being:Heartfulness Meditation
DESCRIPTION:Heartfulness Guided Meditation is a weekly\, drop-in program designed to help you Mental well-being. \n\nAll U-M students\, faculty\, and staff are welcome to participate in guided meditation practice with a trainer every Friday at noon over Zoom (details to join are provided below). No prior experience with meditation is required. \n\n*What will you learn?*\n\nThe session involves 3 simple steps:\n\nBreathing\nRelaxation\nMeditation\n\nDeep breathing bring a pause followed by Relaxation brings your body to a calm\, steady posture creating a stillness at the physical level\, and prepares the mind for meditation. Lastly\, learning to meditate by being mindful of your heart will connect you with yourself by listening to your heart’s voice. This is the art of Heartfulness Meditation. \n\n*Why Meditate?*\n\nWhile physical fitness keeps our bodies in shape\, meditation is an exercise for the mind and mental wellness. In addition to the measurable benefits mentally and physically\, many people benefit from an unquantifiable inner poise and harmony. \n\n*Please take Learn to Meditate session if you are new to the practice. These sessions are offered Monthly.* https://events.umich.edu/event/128708\n\n*Event Details*\n\nHeartfulness Guided Meditation \nFridays from 12-12:30 p.m. ET (except during university season days / holidays)\nJoin Via Zoom Meeting\nRegister to receive Passcode (see “Related links”\n\n\nThis wellness program is coordinated by ITS Teaching & Learning and provided at no cost by heartfulness.org.

SUMMARY:Class / Instruction:IOE 101: Christian Jones and Marika Jones “Two Generations\, Two Career Paths\"
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, mother‑and‑son alumni\, Marika and Christian Jones\, will share how their Industrial and Operations Engineering degrees from the University of Michigan became the launchpad for two very different\, highly successful careers. \n\nTheir discussion will highlight how IOE principles translate far beyond traditional engineering roles—from leading major healthcare fundraising organizations to shaping financial strategy for cutting‑edge aerospace programs. Students will gain insight into navigating unconventional career paths\, recognizing transferable skills\, and confidently pursuing opportunities that align with their passions.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:MCDB Seminar Series> From NextGen Epi/Proteomics to Molecular Glue Discovery
DESCRIPTION:To illustrate how our technology-driven approach enables us to address fundamental biological questions and translate these insights into therapeutic discoveries\, I will describe three newly developed high-throughput screening (HTS) technologies\, ranging from the elucidation of the underlying molecular mechanisms of transcriptional regulation to single-cell proteomics and molecular glue discovery.\n\nBio: Dr. Heng Zhu is a full professor of pharmacology and molecular sciences and oncology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. His research focuses on developing high-throughput screening technologies\, including proteome arrays\, VirD arrays\, and a highly multiplexed DAPPL platform to investigate important basic science and translational questions. \n\nDr. Zhu is a pioneer proteomics technologist who co-invented protein microarray technology. Currently\, his team is engaged in understanding the impacts of DNA epigenetic modifications on transcriptional regulation\, characterization of function GWAS SNPs\, and biomarker discovery.\n\nDr. Zhu received his undergraduate degree in chemistry from Peking University in Beijing\, China. He earned his Ph.D. from Clemson University. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in genetics at Yale University. Dr. Zhu joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2004.\n\nDr. Zhu's work has been recognized with numerous awards and honors\, including two Chair's Awards from the Gordon Research Conference.
