SUMMARY:Exhibition:Reverie: The Student-led Exhibition Committee Fall 2026 Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:\n\n\nA reverie is a state between waking and dreaming\, a moment when the mind drifts beyond the immediate. It is a space where memory\, imagination\, desire\, and reality can overlap\, distort\, and take on new forms. In these moments\, the familiar can become strange\, and the ordinary can become something unexpected.\n\nReverie brings together student works that explore the space between what is known and what is felt. Across painting\, oil pastel\, ceramic\, digital art\, animation\, and mixed media\, the artists move through imagined landscapes\, intimate encounters\, memories\, figures\, and fragments of the everyday. These works blur the boundaries between observation and imagination\, allowing emotion and perception to reshape what we recognize.\n\nRather than depicting dreams literally\, Reverie considers dreaming as a way of seeing. The works reflect moments of escape\, introspection\, fantasy\, and transformation\, where the subconscious can surface and reality becomes open to interpretation. \n\nReverie was conceived and curated by members of the Student-led Exhibition Committee (SEC)\, and features work by eight SEC members at the Stamps School of Art & Design. The exhibition includes ten works across oil on canvas\, oil pastel\, ceramic\, digital art\, digital animation\, and mixed media.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:“Who Counts? A History of Voting in America”
DESCRIPTION:Changes over the course of the nineteenth century in how Americans voted\, from voice vote to public ballot box to private voting booth\, also saw changes in the material culture that surrounded voting. Ballots and ballot boxes\, campaign pins and ribbons\, blank lists and pre-printed party tickets\, lanterns and banners–the creative forces of the American print industry filled the country’s cities and small towns with the ephemera of electioneering.\n\nAs you look at the items in this exhibit\, think about what they tell us about how Americans in the past felt about voting\, and about how voting felt. How did Election Days feel when they were full of parades and music and public drinking? What was it like to vote when everyone around you knew who you voted for? And\, most of all\, who counted as a voter\, and who did the counting?\n\nOn view September 11-December 22\, weekdays from 12-4 pm.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Algorithmic Awareness: An AI Workshop for Ph.D. Students
DESCRIPTION:Do you wonder how AI impacts the integrity of your research data? Are you concerned about hidden biases within automated tools? This workshop introduces algorithmic awareness as a vital skill for modern scholars. You will examine case studies like the COMPAS system to understand how code reinforces social inequality. We provide specific tools to help you identify factual errors and AI \"hallucinations\" in your output. Participants learn to value human perspectives over machine-generated summaries to ensure inclusive research practices. This session serves incoming graduate students looking to build an ethical foundation for their academic careers.\n\nThis workshop is designed with doctoral students and postdocs in mind. If you have any questions\, please contact rackhampdeworkshops@umich.edu.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Assistive Technology for Everyone
DESCRIPTION:This workshop will explore assistive technology as a powerful set of tools that can improve access and independence for people with disabilities while also supporting users in a wide range of everyday contexts. The session will include demonstrations of built-in accessibility features on smartphones and computers that support vision\, hearing\, mobility\, dexterity\, cognition\, and attention. \n\nWe will also discuss how to choose assistive technology tools based on individual needs and goals\, and share where to find helpful U-M and external resources. This session is designed to help participants better understand how accessibility features can create more flexible\, inclusive\, and effective digital experiences for everyone.\n\nAmerican Sign Language (ASL) interpreting services and Communication Access Realtime Translation (CART) captioning services will be provided. If you need additional accommodations to participate in this webinar\, please email the ADA Coordinator at ADAcoordinator@umich.edu.
