SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Probability and Analysis Seminar: The Gamma-disordered Aztec diamond
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: The dimer model\, i.e. random perfect matchings of a bipartite graph\, is a classical object about which much is known. As soon as one biases the probability measure by edge weights which are themselves random\, very little is known rigorously\, though physicists have studied such models for several decades and made extensive predictions. I will discuss a new integrable model in this class (the Gamma-disordered Aztec diamond) which allows us to prove results on the free energy\, and also exhibits surprising relations to integrable polymer models which lead to probabilistic results on tilings. Joint work with Maurice Duits (KTH)\, https://arxiv.org/abs/2512.03033.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:RTG SEMINAR GEOMETRY\, TOPOLOGY\, DYNAMICS: Global Rigidity of Codimenson 1 Actions
DESCRIPTION:This talk concerns the geometric classification of smooth\, locally free\, codimension-one actions of higher-rank simple Lie groups G (e.g.\, SL(n\,R)\, n at least 3) on closed manifolds M. We show that M is G-equivariantly diffeomorphic (up to a finite cover) to G/\Gamma x S^1\, for a uniform lattice \Gamma of G\, if and only if it admits a probability measure that is mixing for a minimal parabolic subgroup P of G. When such a P-mixing probability measure does not exist\, we show that M is a fiber bundle over a boundary space of G\, i.e.\, over G/Q for some parabolic subgroup Q of G. This result is in the spirit of the Zimmer program.
