SUMMARY:Exhibition:For All Ages Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:In the 19th century\, new ideas about childhood and education\, along with advances in printing like chromolithography\, made it possible to mass-produce games and toys. These were not only fun to play with but also taught practical skills and moral lessons. Learn about familiar and unique toys and board games throughout American history in the William L. Clements Library’s new exhibit\, “For All Ages” on view weekdays from 12-4 pm between October 3-January 5.\n\nEven though the objects are behind glass\, the co-curators have created an interactive way to explore the display. Visit the exhibit to participate in a scavenger hunt and win a prize!

SUMMARY:Presentation:FoRMS: Bevin Killen (History)\, Title TBD
DESCRIPTION:Please join The Forum for Research in Medieval Studies (FoRMS) on Monday\, November 10th\, in 3222 Angell Hall for a presentation from Bevin Killen (History). The abstract for this presentation is below.\n\nSometime in late January of 1429\, two women—Joanna (or Joan) Clifland and her new neighbor\, Margery Baxter—engaged in a quiet conversation by Joanna’s fireside\, huddled over their needlework. By the time the conversation ended\, Margery had implicated herself as not only a heretic\, but as a prominent figure enmeshed in a network of heretics and their supporters across the county of Norfolk. Joanna’s deposition is lengthy\, but it is only at the end that she mentions\, almost offhandedly\, that her two servants\, Joan Grymle and Agnes Bethom\, had been present the entire time—and even directly addressed by Margery herself in her attempts at proselytization. What’s more\, when called to testify\, the younger of the two girls\, Agnes\, corrects one aspect of her mistress’s account in court. Sixty years earlier\, in the archiepiscopal court of York\, Ellen\, the wife of Thomas Taliour\, recounted before the judge that thirteen years earlier\, she had refused the offer of her former mistress to serve as a wet nurse for her child on the grounds that she did not love her former mistress’s son as much as she loved her own child\, and would not be willing to sacrifice her child’s life for that of her mistress’s son.\n\nAlthough separated by geography and time\, these examples pose interesting questions for conventional views of servants and service in late medieval England: the obligatory hierarchy implied between servant and employer\; the “life cycle” model that has prevailed of seeing service as one “stop” along the way to maturity and adulthood\; and the insulation of servants from the personal matters of those whom they serve. Taking as my time period roughly c. 1300 to 1500\, and drawing on a combination of legal and literary sources\, I hope to explore the degree to which servants were embedded within the households they served\, and how this embedding may disrupt both internal hierarchies among servants and the larger inequalities of social class embodied by the employer/employee relationship. \n\nLunch will be provided.\n\nPlease note the change in location for this meeting!

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Modeling Human Trust and Behavior Dynamics
DESCRIPTION:Join Hyesun Chung\, Ph.D. candidate in Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan and Barbour Fellow\, for a seminar on advancing our understanding of human trust and behavioral dynamics in human-autonomy interaction. Building on her interdisciplinary background in engineering\, design\, and psychology\, Hyesun will explore how humans and intelligent agents collaborate beyond one-to-one settings—extending to multi-agent and team-based environments. She will discuss her research on modeling and predicting trust dynamics profiles based on individual characteristics\, as well as her studies on the relationship between trust and altruism in multi-operator\, single-agent systems. Together\, these insights inform the design of adaptive\, trust-aware autonomous agents that enhance human–AI teaming and support cooperative\, human-centered autonomy.

SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:Operation Graduation Fall 2025
DESCRIPTION:Operation Graduation is a multi-day rental event designed to ease the financial burden of purchasing a graduation gown. As part of a CSG initiative that began in 2018 and is proudly continued by the current Programming Board\, students will have the opportunity to borrow graduation gowns at no cost. This year\, we’re shifting from a month-long program to a special event format. A limited number of gowns will be available and distributed on a first-come\, first-served basis to students who attend. To promote sustainability and ensure accessibility for future graduating classes\, students are required to return their gowns after their commencement ceremony. Please note that failure to return a gown will result in consequences determined by CSG.Operation Graduation is proudly hosted by CSG’s Programming Board in partnership with the University Career Center (UCC). Join us in celebrating your achievements while supporting an initiative that makes graduation more affordableand sustainable for everyone!
