SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Exploring the Mind | The Stress Response in Humans and Animals: Friend or Foe?
DESCRIPTION:Talk abstract forthcoming\n\nAbout the speaker: Jacinta C. Beehner is a Professor of Psychology and Anthropology at the University of Michigan\, where she also directs the Evolution and Human Adaptation Program. Professor Beehner is a behavioral ecologist and primatologist whose research focuses on sexual conflict\, reproductive strategies\, and the physiological mechanisms underlying social behavior in wild primates. She has led the Simien Mountains Gelada Research Project in Ethiopia since 2005 and the Capuchins at Taboga field project in Costa Rica since 2017. Her work integrates behavioral\, hormonal\, and ecological data to understand how social and environmental stressors shape fitness. She directs two endocrine laboratories—one at the University of Michigan and one at her field site in Costa Rica—that specialize in non-invasive hormone analysis. Professor Beehner is an elected Fellow of the Animal Behavior Society and serves on the Science and Executive Committee of The Leakey Foundation.\n\nNote that this talk is free and open to the public and will take place at the Ann Arbor District Library's Downtown Branch.
