DESCRIPTION:U-M students\, faculty and staff are invited to take control of their personal safety by learning physical and verbal strategies to counter violence through our empowerment self-defense workshops. Registrants do not need an active membership with Recreational Sports\, and courses under this session are provided Free of charge!\nThe workshops\, led by Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention (SHARP)-certified instructors\, aim to teach participants situational awareness and prevention skills to leave them better equipped to deal with everything from harassment to potentially violent people to sexual assault. Participants will take part in verbal exercises\, physical drills and discussion.

DESCRIPTION:Join Lola von Miramar\, a Puerto Rican drag queen who loves cooking\, and LaWhore Vagistan\, everyone’s favorite South Asian drag aunty\, as they discuss the radical and fascinating works of Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes (Translocas: The Politics of Puerto Rican Drag and Trans Performance\, University of Michigan Press\, 2021) and Kareem Khubchandani (Decolonize Drag\, OR Books\, 2023). Together\, they will glamorously dive deep into the pages that uncover complexities of the art of drag performance that you will not learn about on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
