SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:\"2025 Western Corps Teams: Protecting Nature\, Inspiring Action\"
DESCRIPTION:The Student Conservation Association’s (SCA) Western Corps Teams bring together passionate young conservationists dedicated to protecting and preserving the diverse ecosystems of the Western United States. As part of the SCA\, these teams engage in hands-on conservation projects\, working alongside land management agencies to address urgent environmental challenges. Their efforts include trail building and maintenance\, habitat restoration\, invasive species control\, and naturalresource conservation. The Western Corps Teams provide college students and adults with an opportunity to gain real-world experience in the environmental field\, while making a direct impact on the protection of national parks\, forests\, wildlife habitats\, and public lands across the region. By collaborating with experienced professionals\, participants gain valuable skills in conservation\, leadership\, and teamwork—preparing them for future careers in environmental science\, sustainability\, and resource management. Each year\, the Western Corps Teams embody the SCA's mission of connecting applicants with nature and empowering the next generation of conservation leaders. Participants not only contribute to the preservation of vital landscapes but alsoforge lifelong connections to the natural world and the communities they serve. Through these efforts\, the Western Corps Teams are helping to ensure that future generations can enjoy and benefit from America’s rich natural heritage.

SUMMARY:Conference / Symposium:Center for Emerging Democracies Roundtable | After 2024: Elections & Democracy
DESCRIPTION:2024 was described as a “super year” for elections. But for many people in many places\, it didn’t feel like a “super year” for democracy. This roundtable takes stock of what we learned from a year when a whopping 4 billion people – half the world’s population\, from America to India to Mexico to South Africa – had the opportunity to vote. Are elections mostly fulfilling their democratic promise\, or increasingly ushering authoritarian politicians into power? And what beyond elections is most urgently needed to strengthen global democracy in the years to come?\n \nIf there is anything we can do to make this event accessible to you\, please contact us. Please be aware that advance notice is necessary as some accommodations may require more time for the university to arrange.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:CM-AMO Seminar | Studying Macroscopic Quantum Phenomena in Emergent Material Phases and Quantum Devices
DESCRIPTION:Hybrid Lecture: Join us on Zoom if you can't come in person: https://umich.zoom.us/j/7650373624\n\nMacroscopic quantum phenomena extend quantum behavior beyond the atomic scale\, leading to complex effects with significant implications for energy-efficient technologies and quantum computing. Understanding these phenomena experimentally requires both ideal material platforms that host them and advanced measurement techniques that can access their quantum degrees of freedom. The first part of my presentation focuses on correlated electronic phenomena in rhombohedral graphene multilayers\, demonstrating their potential as a powerful platform for studying macroscopic quantum phenomena. The second part of the talk shifts focus to superconducting quantum circuits and their interaction with mechanical systems. I will present the observation of interface piezoelectricity in aluminum–silicon junctions\, which is an unexpected decoherence channel in superconducting qubits. Finally\, I will discuss the potential of superconducting quantum circuits and nanomechanical systems as novel tools for characterizing complex macroscopic quantum phenomena in condensed matters.
