Free and open to the public.\n\nGUEST ARTIST BIO\n\nSoprano CHRISTINE GOERKE has appeared in many of the most prestigious opera houses of the world including the Metropolitan Opera\, Lyric Opera of Chicago\, San Francisco Opera\, Royal Opera House\, Paris Opera\, Teatro alla Scala\, Deutsche Oper Berlin\, Teatro Real in Madrid\, and the Saito Kinen Festival. She has sung much of the great soprano repertoire\, beginning with the Mozart and Handel heroines and now moving into dramatic Strauss and Wagner roles. \n\nMs. Goerke has also appeared with a number of leading orchestras including the New York Philharmonic\, Boston Symphony Orchestra\, Chicago Symphony Orchestra\, Cleveland Orchestra\, Los Angeles Philharmonic\, Radio Vara\, the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the BBC Proms\, and both the Hallè Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Symphony at the Edinburgh International Festival. She has worked with some of the world's foremost conductors including James Conlon\, Sir Andrew Davies\, Sir Mark Elder\, Christoph Eschenbach\, Claus Peter Flor\, James Levine\, Sir Charles Mackerras\, Kurt Masur\, Zubin Mehta\, Andris Nelsons\, Seiji Ozawa\, David Robertson\, Donald Runnicles\, Esa-Pekka Salonen\, the late Robert Shaw\, Patrick Summers\, Jeffery Tate\, Christian Thielemann\, Michael Tilson Thomas\, and Edo de Waart.\n\nMs. Goerke's recording of Vaughan Williams’ *A Sea Symphony* with Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best Classical Recording and Best Choral Performance. Her close association with Robert Shaw yielded several recordings included the Brahms' *Liebeslieder Waltzes*\, Poulenc's *Stabat Mater*\, Szymanowski's *Stabat Mater*\, and the Grammy-nominated recording of Dvorak's *Stabat Mater*. SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:AIM Seminar:  Interindividual differences in a mathematical model of seasonal timing
DESCRIPTION:Abstract:  Many animals undergo changes in their physiology across seasons in response to day length for survival. This seasonal timing system is conserved across many different species\, including humans\, and is characterized by large interindividual differences. Strong biological responses (e.g. in melatonin duration) to day length have been linked to seasonal affective disorder\, which affects about 5 percent of adults in the U.S. Mathematical models provide a powerful tool to understand the underlying mechanisms driving these responses and their variability across individuals. In this study\, we analyze circadian rhythms in medical interns across the U.S. using data from wearable devices. Our findings reveal that individuals with stronger seasonal responses experience greater circadian misalignment due to environmental changes\, such as shift work. Using physiologically-based mathematical models\, we propose a new perspective on human seasonality\, emphasizing the challenges posed by modern-day environmental factors. Furthermore\, we investigate the dynamical behaviors in the models contributing to the complexity of circadian rhythms and seasonality.\n\nContact:  AIM Seminar Organizers

As such\, scholars across disciplines have been devoted to investigating how race and ethnicity feature in every aspect of social and political life. The purpose of I-REP (Interdisciplinary Workshop in Race\, Ethnicity and Politics) is to provide a space for scholars whose research centers race\, ethnicity and politics across a number of fields to receive critical feedback on the early stages of their work (especially graduate students)\, build community with other researchers who share similar interests and offer an opportunity for participants to collaborate on a joint research project within the working group.
