SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:ACUM Presents: Supporting Non-traditional Students through the COUNTS Framework
DESCRIPTION:ACUM's Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion in Advising Practice committee presents an event series in collaboration with COUNTS. The series is designed for advising and student service professionals to enhance how they engage with and support nontraditional students.\nThrough this virtual four part series\, participants will have the opportunity to hear from speakers who have expertise in working with four specific student populations on campus\; veterans and veteran-connected students\, student caregivers\, undocumented students\, and students who have experienced foster care and/or are navigating their educational journey without the support of their parents/ guardians.\nParticipants may register for any one\, or multiple sessions in the series.\nCOUNTS (Council for Nontraditional Students)\, a university-wide council comprised of faculty\, staff\, and students\, is focused on supporting the success of underserved students through resource sharing\, collaboration\, and tracking emerging needs. The COUNTS Toolkit for Student Success is designed to enhance how University staff engage and support nontraditional students. The Toolkit highlights a variety of experiences\, challenges\, and topics that many nontraditional students face on campus. \nThe Advising Council at the University of Michigan\, or ACUM\, brings together those who advise to best serve our students through the sharing of information\, ideas\, and best practices across U-M. We welcome your involvement in our committees and future events.
