SUMMARY:Fair / Festival:Fall Housing Fair
DESCRIPTION:The fall housing fair event offers students a great opportunity to learn more about off-campus housing options in and around Ann Arbor. Although leasing season doesn't get fully underway until after winter break\, the fall is a great time to start to think about housing plans for next year. Students can meet with housing providers\, hear about special offers and giveaways\, and also learn more about various programs that provide support and resources to students who live off-campus.

SUMMARY:Performance:Jessi Grieser\, carillon
DESCRIPTION:LSA faculty member Jessi Grieser performs on the Charles Baird Carillon\, an instrument of 53 bronze bells located inside the Burton Memorial Tower. The largest bell\, which strikes the hour\, weighs 12 tons\, while the smallest bell\, 4½ octaves above\, weighs just 15 pounds.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Charles Baird Carillon at noon every weekday that classes are in session\, followed by visitor Q&A with the carillonist. The bell chamber may be accessed via a combination of elevator and stairs. Take the elevator to the highest floor possible (floor 8)\, and then climb two flights of stairs (39 steps) to the bell chamber (floor 10). Hearing protection earmuffs are provided for visitors. Be prepared to walk on ice and snow in the bell chamber during winter. Built in 1936\, the Charles Baird Carillon is not ADA accessible. Visitors with mobility concerns are invited to visit the Lurie Carillon.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:LRCCS Noon Lecture Series | The Sacred Edict as Hate Speech: Griffith John\, the Hunan Riots\, and Qing imperial ideology
DESCRIPTION:In the 1890s\, a series of anti-missionary riots swept through Hunan province. While the disturbances were promptly quelled and the instigators brought to justice\, missionaries found themselves in heated debates about the origins of the riots. One of them was Welshman Griffith John who singled out the Sacred Edict as one root cause of anti-Christian sentiment and argued for its amendment. This talk examines the context behind the debate and what it can tell us about endurance of and contradictions within imperial ideology in late imperial China.\n\nPär Cassel is an associate professor of modern Chinese history at the University of Michigan. He is strongly committed to multi-lingual and multi-archival research and is especially interested in historical problems where international relations\, jurisprudence\, institutional history\, and linguistics intersect. He is currently working on a book length project about the Sacred Edict.\n\n*Part of the International Institute Theme Year: Sovereignty*\nhttps://myumi.ch/ii-theme

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Molecular insights into environmentally relevant EDC-induced adult onset and transgenerational inheritance of disease using the zebrafish model
DESCRIPTION:Zoom registration required https://myumi.ch/6PEQX\n\nThe Integrated Health Sciences Core's (IHSC) webinar series is an interdisciplinary forum for interested researchers to come together to learn and discuss wide-ranging issues in the field of environmental health. \n\nTracie Baker\, DVM\, PhD is a Professor of Environmental and Global Health at the University of Florida and Adjunct Faculty at Wayne State University\, where she directs a multidisciplinary\, translational research program bridging human\, animal\, and environmental health. Her NIH-funded One Health research evaluates contaminant levels in global environments\, from the Great Lakes to the Everglades to Ethiopia\, and using the zebrafish model to uncover the etiology of toxicant-induced adverse developmental\, reproductive\, and transgenerational health outcomes.

SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Rehearsing the Future: Imagination\, Foresight\, and the Practice of Thinking Ahead
DESCRIPTION:The future cannot be predicted—but it can be explored\, challenged\, and rehearsed.\n\nWhat if being prepared for the future wasn’t about having the right answers—but about strengthening how you think? In environments dominated by short-term pressures\, the ability to think beyond the present is emerging as a critical leadership advantage.\n\nImagination is a fundamental cognitive capability that allows us to generate possibilities beyond what exists today. Yet in fast-paced\, and uncertain environments\, we rarely make time to develop it. When imagination is underused\, we default to reaction\, overlook emerging signals\, and feel less prepared for what’s ahead. Research consistently shows that while the vast majority of leaders see imagination as critical to future success\, only a small minority actively cultivate it in practice.\n\nStrategic foresight provides a way to actively build this capability — combining data\, signals\, and structured exploration with generative thinking to help individuals rehearse possibilities and shape more intentional outcomes. Organizations that apply these future-focused practices consistently outperform peers in growth\, resilience\, and innovation.\n\nLed by leading foresight practitioners\, this interactive session will engage participants in futures thinking and real-time exploration through approaches like scenarios\, provocations\, and reflection — creating space to strengthen imagination in action.\n\nParticipants will leave with practical approaches to:\n\nGenerate and explore new possibilities\nGreater confidence navigating uncertainty\nNew ways to think\, decide\, and lead beyond the present
