SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:GLNT: Minimal lifts of mod-3 modular forms
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Serre's conjecture has two parts: a modularity part — that predicts which mod-ell Galois representations come from a modular form — and a minimal-lifting part — that predicts the minimal weight\, level\, and character of the modular form. Not long after formulating the conjecture\, Serre found a counterexample to the minimal-lifting part for small values of ell (ell<5)\, where the character part of the prediction is wrong. In this talk\, I'll discuss a variant of the minimal-lifting conjecture where the nebentypus character is replaced by the character used to define a supercuspidal representation. I will show that\, in this case\, even for ell=3\, there is no obstruction to finding minimal lifts. This is joint work with Patrick Allen.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Plabic Graphs\, Honeycombs\, and Hives
DESCRIPTION:This expository talk introduces three families of combinatorial objects connecting linear algebra\, representation theory\, and the geometry of the Grassmannian. Plabic graphs were introduced by Postnikov to index and parametrize positroid cells in the totally nonnegative Grassmannian. Knutson and Tao's honeycombs describe eigenvalues of Hermitian matrices A\, B\, and A+B\; their dual model\, hives\, give a lattice-point-counting rule for Littlewood-Richardson coefficients. Through small examples\, I will explain each construction\, and illustrate the correspondence between honeycombs and hives\, and their relationships to local moves on plabic graphs. No prior familiarity with the topics will be assumed. This exposition follows a part of Postnikov's talk \"Honeycombs\, Plabic Graphs\, and Polypositroids\" from AsiaComb 2026\, supplemented by the work of Knutson-Tao-Woodward on hives and the octahedron recurrence.
