SUMMARY:Film Screening:Korean Cinema NOW | House of the Seasons | 장손
DESCRIPTION:2024 ‧ Drama ‧ 2h ‧ PG-13\n \n View the trailer at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3x3NBKC74jY\n \n House of the Seasons\, is a 2025 South Korean family drama that delves into the quiet breakdown of a multi-generational family bound by tradition and a tofu factory in Daegu. The film follows the Kim family through gatherings across the seasons—including ancestral rites and a sudden funeral—that expose deep-seated conflicts\, financial disputes\, and the eldest grandson Seong-jin's (Kang Seung-ho) reluctance to inherit the business. Director Oh Jung-min's assured debut is a beautifully lensed portrait of modern Korean family dynamics\, earning high praise for its blend of humor and melancholy. Its critical success was capped by a major award win\, claiming Best Film at the 34th Buil Film Awards and securing Best New Director for Oh Jung-min at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards.\n \n Directed by Oh Jungmin\n Presented in Korean with English subtitles\n\n*Accommodation: If there is anything we can do to make this event accessible to you\, please contact us at outreachkorea@umich.edu. SUMMARY:Performance:Dimanche
DESCRIPTION:Two award-winning Belgian mime and puppetry companies come together for this stunning visual performance combining puppetry\, video\, mime\, and clowning.\n\nSometime in the near future\, it is the end of the world as we know it. In their small city home\, a family is about to spend their Sunday together\, but the walls are shaking\, strong winds and torrential rain rage outside\, and the storm has only just begun. Amidst this climatic chaos\, the protagonists absurdly attempt to maintain a normal family life.\n\nMeanwhile\, somewhere else on the planet\, three traveling wildlife reporters are doing their best to document the apocalypse. With what little equipment they have\, they film three wild animals on the brink of extinction.\n\nBetween dreamlike fiction and stark reality\, Dimanche paints a witty and tender portrait of humanity surprised by the uncontrollable forces of nature\, observing the absurdity of keeping up appearances amidst an ecological collapse. “Meticulous scenes and beautiful theatrical effects create a surreal\, dreamlike world with an eye for detail. Dimanche is a dystopian parable about the climate\, yet a joy to behold.” (De Standaard\, Belgium)
