SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:Internship Lab
DESCRIPTION:*RSVP required to attend. Click \"Join Event\" here:https://umich.joinhandshake.com/edu/events/2049813 Are you ready to start searching for a great internship? Do you have a few ideas\, but you’re not sure where to get started? Let's talk about search strategy!! Get real-time\, personalized support by checking out Internship Lab. You’ll be guided by one of our Career Coaches who has designed this experience to provide you strategies\, tools\, and motivation toget on the right track with searching for internships. Chat with folks from the University Career Center to explore Handshake\, the University Career Alumni Network (UCAN) and to learn about other tools youcan use to build a great job/internship search strategy. **If you're not sure what you're interested in\, consider making an \"CareerExploration and Planning\" appointment to get started clarifying your interests with a career coach in a 1-on-1 setting. Recent Grads: If you are an alumni\, you will not be able to access the link due the University’s policy of discontinuing alumni Zoom accounts 30 days after graduation. Please contact careercenter@umich.edu with the subject line “Recent Grad Help” to be set up with a 1:1. Include the name of the workshop/event in your email. We want to ensure full and equitable participation in our events. If an accessibility accommodation would promote your full participation in this event\, please indicate your accommodationrequirements via the link below\, preferably at least 14 days prior to the program to ensure sufficient time for arranging your requested accommodation(s) or exploring suitable alternatives. SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Student DGT: From Killing Homotopy to Complex Cobordism
DESCRIPTION:Computing the homotopy groups of spheres has been a central motivator in algebraic topology for decades. In this talk I’d like to unravel one approach to this problem\, built around the idea of killing homotopy groups\, and see how far it takes us. I’ll begin with the classical story of killing homotopy\, as it appears in Serre’s finiteness theorem for the homotopy groups of spheres. Then I’ll turn this trick into an industrial-grade construction: the Adams-Novikov spectral sequence\, a machine for computing stable homotopy groups. We will redeem this unraveling into a spectral sequence by an explicit description of the cobordism ring of complex manifolds! Through this identification I'll sketch a remarkable relationship between cobordism\, cohomology\, and formal group laws. This relationship forms the bedrock of chromatic homotopy theory\, which organizes periodic phenomena in stable homotopy groups that I will briefly discuss at the end.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Student Life Coaching Circles
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our annual Coaching Cirlces!  Each coaching session will provide 8-10 staff members with an opportunity to interact informally with a Student Life Unit Director (or leader) around a leadership topic of interest to them. These are informal conversations (rather than workshops or presentations) between staff and these leaders who have experience with and willingness to share their wisdom around these topics.Staff are asked to register for no more than one coaching circle a semester. Space is very limited\, register today!

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Algebraic Geometry Seminar: Group actions on families of K3 categories
DESCRIPTION:There is a well-known obstruction distinguishing an action of a finite group G on a derived category from a mere identification of G with a subgroup of the group of autoequivalences. I will first explain how to extend this distinction to a family of categories and\, in the case of K3 surfaces\, how to use stability conditions to completely control this construction. \n\nAs one example\, this leads to a construction of non-commutative abelian surfaces (categories deformation-equivalent to derived categories of abelian surfaces) in exactly as much generality as one could reasonably hope for. The applications include the construction of every polarised Hyperkaehler variety of Kummer type from a moduli space.\n\nThis is based on joint work with Alex Perry\, Laura Pertusi and Xiaolei Zhao.
