DESCRIPTION:The Honorable Christopher Taylor will share his perspective on town-gown relations during his three terms as Ann Arbor mayor\, after serving three terms on city council. The mayor believes the mission of local government is to improve basic services and enhance quality of life for residents. Professionally\, Taylor is a partner at the Ann Arbor law firm of Hooper Hathaway\, where his legal practice focuses on estate planning and small business representation. He is a four-time graduate of U-M with bachelor’s degrees in English and vocal performance\, a master’s degree in history and a Juris Doctor from the Law School. He has lived in Ann Arbor for more than 30 years.

SUMMARY:Class / Instruction:Carillon Lesson open to public observation
DESCRIPTION:In place of a regular recital\, the public is welcome to visit and observe as students take a lesson on the carillon led by Prof. Tiffany Ng.\n\nThe Ann & Robert H. Lurie Carillon is an instrument of 60 bells with the lowest bell (bourdon) weighing 6 tons.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Lurie Carillon every weekday that classes are in session. During these recitals\, visitors may take the elevator to level 2 to view the largest bells\, or to level 3 to see the carillonist performing. (Visitors subject to acrophobia are recommended to visit level 2 only.) An optional spiral stairway between levels 2 and 3 allows for up-close views of some of the largest bells.

DESCRIPTION:Dr. Hurn is this program year’s invited speaker from the U-M Ann Arbor campus deans. Dean Hurn joined the university in 2016. She came from the University of Texas System where she was vice chancellor for research and innovation and executive officer. Her research interests are brain injury\, stroke in women\, and interdisciplinary biomedical research and innovation. Her leadership work focuses on collaborative bio-health research models\, science education innovation and research technologies. During her presentation today\, Dean Hurn will discuss research\, education\, and practice innovations in the nursing profession\, emphasizing achievements of the U-M School of Nursing.
