SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Student Life Coaching Circles
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our annual Coaching Cirlces!  Each coaching session will provide 8-10 staff members with an opportunity to interact informally with a Student Life Unit Director (or leader) around a leadership topic of interest to them. These are informal conversations (rather than workshops or presentations) between staff and these leaders who have experience with and willingness to share their wisdom around these topics.Staff are asked to register for no more than one coaching circle a semester. Space is very limited\, register today!

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Algebraic Geometry Seminar: Group actions on families of K3 categories
DESCRIPTION:There is a well-known obstruction distinguishing an action of a finite group G on a derived category from a mere identification of G with a subgroup of the group of autoequivalences. I will first explain how to extend this distinction to a family of categories and\, in the case of K3 surfaces\, how to use stability conditions to completely control this construction. \n\nAs one example\, this leads to a construction of non-commutative abelian surfaces (categories deformation-equivalent to derived categories of abelian surfaces) in exactly as much generality as one could reasonably hope for. The applications include the construction of every polarised Hyperkaehler variety of Kummer type from a moduli space.\n\nThis is based on joint work with Alex Perry\, Laura Pertusi and Xiaolei Zhao.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:CCMB/DCMB Weekly Bioinformatics Seminar Series featuring Peter Toogood\, PhD (Research Associate Professor and Director of Michigan Drug Discovery (MDD))
DESCRIPTION:High throughput screening (HTS) is a common starting point for small molecule drug discovery campaigns\, especially when the biological target is new. HTS is commonly conducted in the wet lab (e.g. the U-M Center for Chemical Genomics)\, but also can be conducted in silico. These \"virtual screens\" are either structure-based\, requiring a knowledge of the 3D structure of the biological target\, or ligand-based\, in which case having multiple overlapping ligands makes it easier to define the feature set that new ligands must match. In this talk\, I will describe several applications of artificial intelligence/machine learning to virtual screening in our projects seeking to identify new starting points for cancer drug discovery. In so doing\, I will trace the evolution of these methods over the last decade from crude attempts at generative design to the application of frontier models like Claude Science.
