DESCRIPTION:Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” was one of the most influential works of the American Revolution. The first edition was published on January 10\, 1776\, with an initial print run of just 1\,000 copies\; but within weeks demand soared. The students of Andy Murphy’s POLISCI 495 course co-curated the exhibition “Revolutionary Paine” to document the whirlwind caused by its publication. On view at the Clements January 16-May 8\, weekdays from 12-4 pm.

DESCRIPTION:As part of the MLK Symposium\, the U-M Carillon Guild presents a Lurie Carillon concert of music by Black composers and songwriters across genre and period\, including Emmy-award-winning Jasmine Arielle Barnes’ *In-Visibility* (2024)\, Robert Slavit’s “Freedom is a Constant Struggle\,” arranged by Yvette Janine Jackson\, and Florence Price’s *Adoration*\, arranged by Tiffany Ng. Carillonists Adam Lenhart\, Sarah Penrose\, and Meghan Wysocki will perform as part of the Carillon Guild at the University of Michigan.\n\nVisitors may take the elevator to level 2 to view the largest bells\, or to level 3 to see the carillonist performing. (Visitors subject to acrophobia are recommended to visit level 2 only.) An optional spiral stairway between levels 2 and 3 allows for up-close views of some of the largest bells.
