SUMMARY:Tours:Sunday Drop-In Tour | Connections in the Ancient World
DESCRIPTION:We often study the ancient world as if each culture were completely separate\, focusing on ancient Egypt\, Cyprus\, Rome\, Mesopotamia\, and Greece in isolation. In this tour\, we’ll look at the connections between these Mediterranean cultures resulting from such factors as trade\, migration\, and conquest. We’ll look at artifacts found in places we might not expect to find them\, as well as evidence of the blending of cultures and traditions.\n\nThis event is free and open to all visitors. If you have any questions or concerns regarding accessing this event\, please visit our accessibility page at https://myumi.ch/zwPkd or contact the education office by calling (734) 647-4167. We ask for advance notice as some accommodations may require more time for the university to arrange.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:UMS presents: Stories of Home Storytelling Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Stories of Home invites community members to come together for an inspiring afternoon of creativity\, connection\, and personal storytelling.\n\nPresented by Every Soul Arts as a companion program to the Sofa Stories performance and film screening\, this interactive workshop transforms the Ypsilanti Freighthouse into a welcoming space for reflection\, conversation\, and shared narratives.\n\nLed by the artists behind Sofa Stories\, the event begins with a hands-on storytelling session designed to help participants craft and shape their own personal stories. The program then transitions into a community stage where attendees are invited to share short stories inspired by the theme of Home\, whether it’s a place they’ve left behind\, a sanctuary they’ve found\, or a sense of belonging they’ve created for themselves.\n\nWhether you choose to share a story or simply listen\, Stories of Home offers a meaningful opportunity to connect with others\, celebrate diverse experiences\, and experience the power of storytelling to build empathy and community.
