SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Research Leadership in a Global Context Certificate Program Information Session
DESCRIPTION:Rackham Graduate School is excited to announce a new opportunity to gain practical skills for engaging across differences within our research and professional communities\, including real-world examples from U-M alumni.\n\nThe Research Leadership in a Global Context certificate program is an eight-week professional development program that prepares graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to lead research with clarity\, confidence\, and cultural awareness. Designed for scholars working in increasingly global\, interdisciplinary\, and collaborative environments\, the program integrates leadership development\, intercultural understanding\, project management\, and ethical research practices.\n\nParticipants build concrete skills for leading teams\, navigating complex research settings\, and preparing for diverse career paths within and beyond academia. By pairing weekly workshops with peer feedback groups and individualized feedback through the Cultural Intelligence (CQ) framework and the Michigan Model of Leadership (MMoL)\, the certificate creates a supportive environment for reflection\, growth\, and practical skill-building.\n\nLearning Objectives:\n\nLeadership: Cultivate the ability to lead research with effective communication and strategic decision-making.\n\nCareer Management: Develop personalized career strategies as graduate scholars to prepare for professional paths both within and beyond academia.\n\nSocial Responsibility: Build knowledge and critical thinking skills to address local\, national\, and global challenges in research and professional environments.\n\nIntercultural Understanding: Enhance cross-cultural collaboration skills by understanding and respecting cultural differences in your scholarship\, including research\, teaching\, and service.\n\nEngaging Across Differences: Foster research environments that recognize and thoughtfully engage multiple viewpoints.\n\nPlease note: You are required to attend an information session to apply for the Research Leadership in a Global Context certificate program.\n\nReach out to rackhamcert@umich.edu with any questions regarding the certificate. Please contact with rackhampdeworkshops@umich.edu with any registration questions.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:CCPS Lecture. This is the Place
DESCRIPTION:There are nearly one million refugees currently living in Poland. While the vast majority arrived from Ukraine\, Poland has also welcomed forcibly displaced people from Central Asia\, Latin America\, Africa\, and the Middle East. While refugees may be different\, they all search for a place that reminds them of home.\nIn *This Is The Place*\, a project supported by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR)\, Anna Liminowicz asked refugees to show what\, in Poland\, reminds them of their home. These portraits and the personalized confessions her subjects handwrote in their native languages tell poignant stories about safety and hope.\nAnna Liminowicz is an award-winning photographer and reportage journalist based in Warsaw\, Poland. A frequent contributor to the *The New York Times*\, *The Guardian*\, *The Wall Street Journal*\, *The Washington Post*\, *El Pais*\, *Der Spiegel* and UNHCR\, Liminowicz divides her time between assignments and long-term personal projects\, mainly focusing on social issues like identity and loss\, and what uplifts her subjects. She has covered the war in Ukraine and Ukrainian refugees in Poland since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion\, and received the 2022 Grand Press Photo Award for her project “Too Precious to Leave Behind”.\n\nIf there is anything we can do to make this event accessible to you\, please contact us. Please be aware that advance notice is necessary as some accommodations may require more time for the university to arrange.
