The natural conditions\, including light\, shadow\, and atmosphere\, change dramatically from hour to hour and day to day\, forcing the artist to respond quickly and decisively. This approach\, born of a direct engagement with the subject and the fleeting nature of the scene\, along with his wet-on-wet technique\, keeps the work fresh and immediate. This duality of function—creating art for exhibition and conceptualizing designs for projects—demonstrates Swafford’s versatility and adaptability as an artist.\n\nSwafford received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in painting from the Rhode Island School of Design\, and while at RISD\, he was part of the European Honors Program. His education not only honed his technical skills but also broadened his artistic perspective through exposure to varied artistic traditions. He has shown his work in both solo and group exhibitions in Chicago\, Kansas City\, and New York State. Macdonald Foundation Department of Human Genetics\nUniversity of Miami Miller School of Medicine\n“Seminar Title TBD”\n\nHosted By: Anthony Antonellis\, PhD\, Department of Human Genetics\n___\nDr. Zuchner is a trained neurologist and molecular geneticist with research interests in identifying genetic variation associated with disease. His lab has identified several genes for Mendelian neurodegenerative disorders and also evaluated risk factors for complex genetic conditions\, including Alzheimer disease\, Parkinson disease\, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. His lab is amongst the pioneering groups that have promoted genome sequencing methods for disease gene identification in humans\, mice\, and drosophilia. He is currently pursuing large-scale exome and genome analysis in multiple neurodegenerative disorders and develops innovative new software tools that allow real time shared analysis of large amounts of genomic data. Dr. Zuchner's scientific interests lie in mapping disease genes and genomic variation that is related to disease.

SUMMARY:Presentation:Some Analytic and Topological Aspects of the Theory of Hodge Modules
DESCRIPTION:This thesis concerns several applications of the analytic and topological theory of Saito's Hodge modules. The first part of the thesis gives an analytic proof of Saito's vanishing theorem by going back to the original idea of Kodaira. The second part concerns several natural Hodge modules on toric varieties\, focusing on understanding the Hodge theoretic properties of the singularities of toric varieties. The last part of the thesis concerns various hypersurfaces that seem to be important for understanding the (compactified) period map defined on the GIT moduli space of Calabi--Yau type hypersurfaces.
