SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:A Prior-Agnostic Test for Bayesian Updating (by Cheaheon Lim and Tomasz Strzalecki)
DESCRIPTION:We develop a test of Bayesian updating “in the field\,” where the analyst observes neither the likelihood function nor the realized signals. Our test works ex post\, conditional on every realized state\, and is prior-agnostic in the sense that its validity does not require the agent’s prior to be “correct.” We compare our procedure to tests based on the martingale property of beliefs\, which are valid only ex ante\, before the state is realized\, and only if the prior is correct. Whereas martingale tests are sensitive to correlation between issues\, our test is robust to such dependence. Even when issues are independent\, we find that our test typically has greater power relative to the martingale-based tests. In an empirical application using individual-level belief data\, we illustrate how our procedure provides a more direct test of Bayesian updating than the martingale-based alternatives.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:BSI Information Sessions- New Transfer Students
DESCRIPTION:We encourage every student interested in or contemplating an undergraduate degree at the School of Information to attend an information session. You will receive an engaging and comprehensive overview of the program\, as well as guidance for the application process. Sessions are hosted on different days to accommodate as many students as possible\, and you only need to attend one session before you apply.  If you are unable to attend an information session\, we highly recommend emailing our team (umsi\,.undergrad@umich.edu) to make sure you have all of the necessary details or scheduling a 1:1 appointment with a student ambassador or admissions advisor. These information sessions are for students interested in transferring to UMSI from outside of the University of Michigan- Ann Arbor campus.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Redefining the STEM Ecosystem & Shifting the Paradigm
DESCRIPTION:The higher education STEM ecosystem is shaped by decentralized infrastructures leading to questions of what STEM is\, and institutional practices that predetermine who belongs. These misaligned structures lead to issues that small-scale\, isolated interventions cannot fix. This opening session of the series urges a paradigm shift away from piecemeal interventions toward institutional transformation at scale\, and will set the framework for future sessions addressing various factors impacting STEM student success.\n\n\nFeaturing:\n\nEdmund Graham\, Associate Director\, Bowman Center for Scholarship to Practice\n\nHeather McCambly\, Associate Professor of Critical Higher Education Policy\, University of Pittsburgh\n\nAireale J. Rodgers\, Assistant Professor of Higher Education\, University of Wisconsin-Madison\n\n\nAbout the series:\n\nReimagining STEM Student Success is a new series designed to advance the recommendations of the STEM Success Working Group by positioning organizational change as the primary lever for student success. Across five sessions\, expert insights will connect research to concrete U-M practices to transform our campus systems\, cultures\, and structures.\n\n\nSponsors:\n\nAccess & Opportunity\; Center for Educational Outreach (CEO)\; Comprehensive Studies Program\; Michigan Program for Advancing Cultural Transformation (M-PACT)\; Office of Faculty Development at the U-M Medical School\; Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education\; Student Success Initiative\; Phillip J. SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:SRC Seminar Series Presents: From Evidence to Action: Precision Implementation of Classroom Physical Activity Breaks
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: \nWe know that classroom physical activity breaks can help children move more\, interrupt prolonged sitting\, and support learning—but knowing what works is only the beginning. The harder question is: How do we help schools consistently put evidence into practice? This talk explores the journey from evidence-based intervention to sustainable classroom practice\, drawing on the implementation of InPACT (Interrupting Prolonged Sitting with Activity) across Michigan schools. Dr. Hasson will examine why promising physical activity interventions often fall short during implementation and how implementation science can help close the gap between adoption and everyday use. She will highlight three complementary strategies—Replicating Effective Programs\, implementation teams\, and implementation facilitation—and share lessons from their application in diverse school settings. The talk will introduce a precision implementation approach: rather than assuming every school needs the same support\, implementation strategies can be stepped up according to the barriers\, resources\, and readiness of each school. Attendees will leave with practical insights into how to move beyond simply asking\, \"Does it work?\" to asking\, “What support does this setting need to make it work—and sustain it?”\n\nBio: \nDr. Rebecca Hasson is the Victor L. Katch Collegiate Professor of Kinesiology and an associate professor of Movement Science at the University of Michigan. She is a nationally recognized expert in children's health\, physical activity\, and health equity. She created InPACT and InPACT at Home to help children be more active through fun\, short activity breaks that fit easily into the school day and family routines. For more than 15 years\, Dr. Hasson has worked with schools\, healthcare providers\, and families to develop practical\, evidence-based programs that improve children's physical\, mental\, and emotional well-being. Her research is supported by the National Institutes of Health and the Michigan Health Endowment Fund\, with a focus on making healthy lifestyles more accessible for all children. Through InPACT\, her goal is to give every child the opportunity to enjoy the lifelong benefits of regular physical activity—at school\, at home\, and beyond.
