DESCRIPTION:Join award-winning artist Holly Bass for a tour of We Hold These Truths\, her largest exhibition to date. We Hold These Truths marks the return of visitors to UMMA’s iconic Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch Apse following a nearly year-long restoration of its signature marble floor\, transforming the storied space into a sequence of encounters with rooms\, replicas\, and acts of writing that move through the nation’s past and present.\n\nHolly Bass is the Penny Stamps School of Art and Design 2025-2026 Roman J. Witt Artist in Residence whose work will be featured in an upcoming exhibition at the University of Michigan Museum of Art. Known for her genre-defying practice that spans dance\, theater\, visual art\, and writing\, Bass is an award-winning artist and cultural worker based in Washington\, DC. Her work — held in the collections of the National Gallery of Art and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery — frequently engages communities through workshops\, devised theater\, and participatory installations.

DESCRIPTION:A work of magical realism narrated by and featuring the viewpoints of six women\, Marks of RED is an Afrofuturistic meditation that explores the effect that memory has on our experiences\, senses\, bodies\, reality\, and imaginative possibilities.\n\nAnchored in the distinctive Gaga movement style in which Pitts was trained (he danced with Batsheva Dance Company for seven years)\, the work draws inspiration from sumo wrestling\, butoh dance\, and techno music\, molding ritual\, movement\, and sound into a rumination on Black embodiment. DESCRIPTION:Born in colonized Ireland just after the turn of the twentieth century\, Samuel Beckett wrote about how power works\, and how it works on people -- especially the dispossessed and the destitute. His own experience hiding from the Gestapo in the French countryside surfaces in most famous play\, *Waiting for Godot* (1953). \n\n*Time Passes* presents eight short plays written after *Godot*\, from the late 1950s to the early 1980s.
