DESCRIPTION:For one night only: Mark Kirschenmann' \"Return to Sender\" album release concert with the Alex Wand Trio and E3Q.\n\nOct1 7pm East Quad Keene Theater\n\nRC Emeritus Lecturer Mark Kirschenmann performs selections from his new album \"Return to Sender\" for electric trumpet and no input mixer. Released on the Minneapolis-based Neuma Records in September 26\, the label says of the record:\n\nUsually a mixer is judged by how clean it sounds\; the less noise\, the more signal\, the\nbetter. With sneaky patching\, however – with outputs connected back into inputs – it be-\ncomes a different creature entirely: a generator of analog chaos\, volatile and unpredictable.\nAdd a trumpet to the circuit and you are now entering the unstable\, fragile\, and gritty world\nof Mark Kirschenmann.\n\nReturn to Sender takes the idea of feedback to a whole new level. The album captures\nimprovised exchanges between trumpet and No-Input Mixer\, bringing together experimental\njazz\, electronic noise\, and live studio experimentation in a series of one-take unrepeatable\nperformances.\n\nFirst associated with Japanese circuit bender\, Toshimaru Nakamura\, the No-Input Mixer functions as a responsive partner with a mercurial mind of its own. Improvisor Kirschenmann shapes its pulses\, tones\, and feedback into layered textures\, then adds processed trumpet lines that interact with the shifting electronics. SUMMARY:Performance:Brain Plasticity Ukulele Collective and Blueshouse
DESCRIPTION:On sale Friday\, July 10 at 10am\n\nAnn Arbor’s Brain Plasticity Ukulele Collective is a proudly intergenerational group\, sharing instruments\, knowledge\, kindness\, and talent across eras. Instruments you might hear in the music of the collective include not only ukuleles but also guitar\, flute\, percussion\, harmonica\, accordion\, mandolin\, mandola\, bass\, piano\, and melodica. The group is inspired by the idea that music cuts across diverse cognitive capabilities and resources\, including numeracy\, language\, and space perception.\n\nMike Brooks\, veteran blues guitar player/singer/songwriter from the UK has been playing guitar since the age of 10\, and professionally since the age of 16. His musical career and accolades are many and varied\, but include hitting the UK charts in 1979 (#28 on “the New Wave of British Heavy Metal” despite being a blues band)\, getting a cease and desist order from Walt Disney Corp for using a band name too close to that of a cartoon mouse\, opening for bands such as the Yardbirds\, the Animals\, Wishbone Ash and Nine Below Zero\, and playing in some of the most famous venues anywhere such as London’s Marquee\, and\, well\, The Ark! In addition to leading BLUESHOUSE and fronting the Brain Plasticity Ukulele Collective\, he also works with Ann Arbor’s youth at the Neutral Zone\, a continuation of a youth music project begun in the UK called Electric896\, which taught disengaged youth how to rock the blues.\n\nPlease note early start time!

DESCRIPTION:Born in colonized Ireland just after the turn of the twentieth century\, Samuel Beckett wrote about how power works\, and how it works on people -- especially the dispossessed and the destitute. His own experience hiding from the Gestapo in the French countryside surfaces in most famous play\, *Waiting for Godot* (1953). \n\n*Time Passes* presents eight short plays written after *Godot*\, from the late 1950s to the early 1980s.
