SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:Shaking the Table: Centering the Voices of Identity Center Practitioners
DESCRIPTION:Identity-center practitioners play a critical role in fostering belonging\, advocacy\, and support for students with marginalized identities. Yet these professionals often navigate complex and challenging environments\, particularly amid increased scrutiny of diversity\, equity\, and inclusion efforts across higher education.\n\nDrawing from Shaking the Table: Survival and Healing Amongst Identity Center Practitioners\, this webinar will uplift the voices of current and former identity-center practitioners as they share personal stories of leadership\, resilience\, survival\, and healing. Panelists will reflect on their experiences leading and working within identity-based centers while offering practical insights\, lessons learned\, and strategies for sustaining themselves and their work.\n\nRather than a series of formal presentations\, the program will feature a facilitated conversation among the book’s co-editors and contributing authors. Together\, they will examine the visible and invisible labor of identity-center work\, the tension involved in creating belonging within institutions that do not always care for practitioners\, and the people\, practices\, communities\, and boundaries that make healing possible.\n\nJoin us for a conversation about the challenges and possibilities of identity-center work—and the roles that community\, mentorship\, and healing-centered practices can play in sustaining professionals committed to creating more inclusive campus communities.\n\n\nModerators & Co-Editors\n\nJonathan A. McElderry\, PhD — Dean of Student Inclusive Excellence\, Assistant Professor of Education\, and Acting Director of the Master of Higher Education Program at Elon University\n\nStephanie Hernandez Rivera\, PhD — Assistant Professor of Education and Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education Emerging Professor at Elon University\n\n\nContributing Authors & Panelists\n\nNikita Haynie\, MEd — Director of Family Engagement for Student Affairs at the University of Kansas\n\nJulian Ignacio — Associate Director for Student Development and Evaluation at the Asian American Resource and Cultural Center at the University of Illinois Chicago\n\nA. SUMMARY:Livestream / Virtual:Adderley Positive Research Incubator: Chayce Baldwin
DESCRIPTION:Adderley Positive Research Incubator \nHosted by: Center for Positive Organizations\n\nCulture and Physiology Shape the Link Between Emotion and Health\nFeatured Scholar: Chayce Baldwin\, University of Michigan\n\nDescription: Emotion is intimately linked to health—an observation that permeates global discourse and policy initiatives alike. Yet\, the research behind it overwhelmingly relies on narrow populations that underrepresent over 85% of the world. In the first part of this talk\, I draw on data from more than 2 million people in over 150 countries to show that the emotion-health link\, though fundamentally physiological\, differs strikingly across cultures. I first present evidence that culture modulates the loneliness-health link\, then extend this pattern to the emotion-health link more broadly. Next\, I show that culture interacts with physiology at multiple levels\, shaping the emotion-health link distinctly across short- and long-term timescales. In the second part of this talk\, I explore how physiology and culture\, as two major shapers of emotion\, might be leveraged to regulate emotion more effectively\, in more lasting ways\, and in tune with the rhythms of daily life.
