SUMMARY:Film Screening:Between the Sun and the Sidewalk: Screening\, Q&A\, and Reception
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Latine Heritage Month at the University of Michigan with an interactive night of film\, food\, discussion\, and community! Together\, we’ll enjoy a screening of Between the Sun and the Sidewalk\, followed by a Q&A and reception with the documentary’s director\, Helen De Michiel. \n\nBetween the Sun and the Sidewalk follows two fiercely dedicated young Latino political organizers leading a team of new recruits to mobilize their community to support a sugary drink tax. When the state government passes a stealth law to ban all local soda taxes until 2030\, these young activists fearlessly battle the corporate lobbying efforts to block them.\n\nIn their goal to ignite a grassroots movement for health justice\, the young organizers\, Christian and Aurora\, are undaunted. Tested during their fight for local democracy and the right to vote on important issues\, the film’s heroes overcome doubt\, fear\, and powerful resistance as they dare to fight back against the goliath American beverage industry.\n\nThis event is presented by Rackham Graduate School with support from Multi-Ethnic Student Affairs (MESA)\, Ginsberg Center\, Puentes\, Turn Up Turnout\, and the Black Graduate Student Association (BGSA). This event is open to all students\, faculty\, and staff as part of Latinx Heritage Month at the University of Michigan.

SUMMARY:Performance:Bob Mould Solo Electric
DESCRIPTION:A solo performance from the former frontman of Hüsker Dü\n\nBob Mould is an American musician/singer/songwriter now in his fifth decade of making and performing music. Bob has released 15 solo albums since his 1989 solo debut Workbook\, after forming and leading Minnesota punk rock innovators Hüsker Dü starting in 1979. Along with two albums in the group Sugar\, Bob has redefined guitar driven rock across 23 studio albums over the last 40-plus years.\n\nIn addition to a catalog of over 250 songs\, Bob contributed the theme song to TV’s The Daily Show and has served as a creative north star to legions of musicians ranging from Dave Grohl to Billie Joe Armstrong.\n\nBob’s most recent album was 2020’s Blue Hearts\, released to continuing critical acclaim. Rolling Stone said “Blue Hearts gushes more piss and vinegar than Stanley Kubrick could fill a hallway with\, but what makes it jaw-dropping is the precision with which Mould has focused his ire on conservatives\, evangelicals\, homophobes\, while leaving room for some self-criticism as well.” \n\n“The fire in Bob Mould’s belly can’t be extinguished\,” gushed Under The Radar. “Blue Hearts is Mould at his fiercest and most deliberate.”\n\nhttps://bobmould.com/\n\nPresented by The Ark. \n\nPlease visit https://mutotix.umich.edu/5039/5040 for more detail.
