DESCRIPTION:The US Coast Guard Auxiliary University Program at UM is looking for new members! \n\nThe US Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed volunteer component of the Coast Guard. The Auxiliary University Program (AUP) offers leadership and public service opportunities to Michigan students interested in making a difference through volunteer work. In the AUP\, you will have the chance to support Coast Guard missions while simultaneously participating in hands-on work and training of your choice. \n\nYou can explore a variety of opportunities\, including boating\, search and rescue\, marine safety\, disaster response\, environmental education\, environmental protection\, and more. AUP students have the unique opportunity to participate in an internship with the Coast Guard at stations around the country and on vessels that travel the globe.\n\nInterested? SUMMARY:Performance:Dave Simonett
DESCRIPTION:New solo music from the Trampled By Turtles lead singer and songwriter\n\nDave Simonett has spent almost two decades as the lead singer\, guitar player and songwriter for the widely popular and beloved roots band\, Tramped By Turtles. He also fronts Dead Man Winter\, a bull-bodied\, emotionally resonant brand of Americana-infused indie rock band. He now boldly steps forward with a shining collection of new solo material for the first time under his own name called Red Tail. While Dead Man Winter's Furnace was a much-needed cathartic experience for Simonett during a dark time\, he is not connecting these songs on Red Tail to his own life as he prefers to allow listeners to develop their own interpretations. The conversational and poetic style in which Simonett writes lends itself to this perfectly\, inspired by the spacious and stark Northern woods of Minnesota\, where he's from. Drawing from the outdoors\, Simonett uses light\, weather and imagery to paint introspective\, cinematic scenes that are easy to lose yourself in.

DESCRIPTION:Making Armenian Americans  \nCurators: Michael Pifer (U-M| MES) and Kathryn Babayan (U-M|History)\nProject Save Photograph Archive/Archive Alive Project\n\nMaking Armenian Americans invites viewers into a moment of possibility in the early 20th century\, when Armenians fleeing violence at the end of the Ottoman Empire came to reinvent themselves in the promise of America. Drawn from the archives of Project Save\, these photographs capture different valences of American life\, as experienced\, performed\, and imagined by Armenian immigrants. From naturalization classes to festivals of nations\, from breaking new ground for churches to mundane tableaus of Thanksgiving and Christmas\, this range of photographs offers a glimpse of a community in the making\, one that sought to preserve a memory of its Ottoman past even while anticipating an American future.

Morrison | Curatorial Assistant: Isabella H. de Lemos\n\nFebruary 2-26\, 2026\, International Institute Gallery\, 547 Weiser Hall\n\n*Back in Bahia: The Repatriation Journey of Afro-Brazilian Art from Detroit to Salvador* traces one of the largest repatriation efforts of Afro-Brazilian art to date. Led by the Detroit-based nonprofit Con/Vida: Popular Arts of the Americas\, the initiative is returning more than 750 works of Afro-Brazilian popular art to Salvador\, Bahia\, where they will enter the collection of the National Museum of Afro-Brazilian Culture (MUNCAB). Built over three decades through sustained relationships with artists\, families\, and workshops across Northeastern Brazil\, the collection reflects the creative ingenuity\, community memory\, and diasporic traditions that define Afro-Brazilian popular art.\n\nThis exhibition highlights selected works from the broader repatriation effort\, recognizing the artists and cultural stewards in Brazil and Michigan who made this historic return possible.
