SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Student Number Theory:Shalika germs
DESCRIPTION:A basic object of study in the invariant harmonic analysis on a reductive p-adic group are the orbital integrals associated to the regular semisimple elements in its Lie algebra. There are many such orbital integrals\, however the study of these infinitely many integrals can be in a sense reduced to studying a finite amount of data: the finite collection of nilpotent orbital integrals and their associated Shalika germs. We explain how this works and if time permits we give some applications of the theory.

SUMMARY:Lecture / Discussion:“For Us the Deserts are Buzzling Cities:” Early Soviet Yerevan between Armenian Futurism and Post-Persian Retrotopia
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Few architects of the 20th century have left as indelible a mark as the neoclassical architect Alexander Tamanyan did in Yerevan. From the late Soviet Cascade to the post-Soviet megaproject Northern Avenue\, his legacy has continued to serve as a point of reference.\n Roaming through scattered experimental buildings\, blueprints hidden in private archives\, and surrealist fiction suppressed by Soviet censors\, the talk seeks to reconstruct from the debris of history an alternative pathway to imagining the Soviet city. Contesting Tamanyan's Eurocentric vision of the city\, the talk recounts the story of those who were torn between anticipation for a communist future and a longing for the city's Persian heritage – which was being razed before their eyes.\n \n Bio: Dr. David Leupold is a research fellow at Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient Berlin and principal investigator of the research project “Relicts of the Future? Life and Afterlife of the Socialist City in Central Asia and the Southern Caucasus” funded by the German Research Association (DFG). Leupold was a 2018-2019 Manoogian Postdoctoral Fellow in the University of Michigan Department of Sociology and holds a doctoral degree from the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.\n \n His research interests comprise contested geographies and the collective imaginations of past\, present and future in the post-Ottoman and post-Soviet space. His first monograph Embattled Dreamlands: At the Nexus of Armenian\, Kurdish and Turkish Memory Politics (New York: Routledge\, 2020) was awarded the 2021 annual book prize of the Central Eurasian Studies Society (CESS).\n \n Suggested Pre-Read:\n ‘Building the Internationalist City from Below’: The Role of the Czechoslovak Industrial Cooperative “Interhelpo” in Forging Urbanity in early-Soviet Bishkek published online by Cambridge University Press: 23 November 2020. https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/international-labor-and-working-class-history/article/abs/building-the-internationalist-city-from-below-the-role-of-the-czechoslovak-industrial-cooperative-interhelpo-in-forging-urbanity-in-earlysoviet-bishkek/95F8127EF91216614230D5B5B47E9FB5\n \n Cosponsors:\n Multidisciplinary Workshop for Armenian Studies\, U-M\n UCLA PromiseArmenian Institute\n UC Berkeley Armenian Studies Program\n\nRegister here: https://umich.zoom.us/j/91032993178

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Algebraic Geometry Seminar: A conjectural formula for the top Chern class of the Hodge bundle
DESCRIPTION:Let A_g be the moduli space of principally polarized abelian varieties of dimension g. The Hodge bundle is a rank g vector bundle on A_g given by pulling back the relative cotangent bundle of the universal family along the zero section. The top Chern class of the Hodge bundle on A_g vanishes. However\, when the Hodge bundle is extended to a compactification of A_g\, this top Chern class stops vanishing. I will present a conjectural formula for this top Chern class on the second Voronoi compactification of A_g. The formula is expressed as a piecewise polynomial on the dual cone complex\, the moduli space of tropical principally polarized abelian varieties.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Existence of Optimal Stationary Singular Controls and MFG Equilibria
DESCRIPTION:We examine the stationary relaxed singular control problem within a multi-dimensional framework for a single agent\, as well as its Mean Field Game (MFG) equivalent. We demonstrate that optimal relaxed controls exist for both maximization and minimization cases. These relaxed controls are defined by random measures across the state and control spaces\, with the state process described as a solution to the associated martingale problem. By leveraging findings from \cite{kur-sto}\, we establish the equivalence between the martingale problem and the stationary forward equation. This allows us to reformulate the relaxed control problem into a linear programming problem within the measure space. We prove the sequential compactness of these measures\, thereby confirming the feasibility of achieving an optimal solution. Subsequently\, our focus shifts to Mean Field Games. Drawing on insights from the single-agent problem and employing Kakutani--Glicksberg--Fan fixed point theorem\, we derive the existence of a mean field game equilibria.
