Are you curious about what is tucked away in the University of Michigan Special Collections and Clements Library?\n\nPlease mark your calendars on Friday\, January 16th\, 2026 from 1:00-3:00pm for a special “Rare Books Meet & Greet” specifically designed for the Germanic Languages and Literatures Department!\n\nWe will feature selected German-language materials from the University of Michigan Special Collections and Clements Library. Curators from Special Collections and the Clements Library will also be available for introductions and to answer questions about the materials. \n\nThis open house-style event will occur in the Special Collections Research Center\, Room 660D\, on the 6th Floor of Hatcher South and will be open to faculty\, lecturers\, and graduate students affiliated with GLL\, as well as the four undergraduate students currently writing their Honors theses. Feel welcome to come and stay the whole two hours\, or drop in for a few minutes as your schedule allows.\n\nThis is a perfect time to discover materials for future research or instruction interests and speak with the caretakers of the collections. DESCRIPTION:Lon Mitchell performs on the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Carillon\, an instrument of 60 bells with the lowest bell (bourdon) weighing 6 tons.\n\nThirty-minute recitals are performed on the Lurie Carillon every weekday that classes are in session. During these recitals\, visitors may take the elevator to level 2 to view the largest bells\, or to level 3 to see the carillonist performing. (Visitors subject to acrophobia are recommended to visit level 2 only.) An optional spiral stairway between levels 2 and 3 allows for up-close views of some of the largest bells.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Determinants of Norm Compliance: Moral Similarity and Group Identification
DESCRIPTION:What determines whether someone complies with a social norm? The social identity approach offers a mechanism for norm compliance: a person who feels similar to a group identifies more with that group and\, in turn\, complies with the group’s norms. Using an experiment\, we test whether similarity in values increases identification and adherence to a group rule. To do so\, we varied the similarity/dissimilarity between the values of an individual and members of a social group and measured group identification and rule compliance. We find that similarity in values increased group identification\, and group identification increased rule compliance. We show that this behavior change was due to increased group norm sensitivity rather than changes in norms to follow rules when they come from similar or dissimilar groups. We advance the study of social identity by establishing a causal pathway between group identification and behavior change. We also contribute to the management literature by showing that aligning organizational values with those of the workforce is a viable and implementable mechanism for increasing policy and guideline adherence.
