SUMMARY:Other:Wonder Walk: Desert Dreaming
DESCRIPTION:In the deserts of southern Africa\, a remarkable group of plants has evolved into forms so unusual that they often look more like stones than living organisms. These plants\, in the family Aizoaceae\, have developed extraordinary adaptations that allow them to survive intense heat\, drought\, and predation. In this edition of Desert Dreaming\, we’ll explore how these plants live\, how they evolved\, and how people cultivate them today. We’ll also look at the threats they face in the wild\, and what we can do to help ensure their survival for generations to come.” Learn to grow lithops from seed! \n\nMatthaei Botanical Gardens is hosting free guided nature walks on select Wednesdays and Sundays. These walks are FREE\, no registration is required. Wonder Walks are designed for all ages to inspire curiosity and learning from each other through activities that model curiosity and honor nature. If we have a sizeable mixed-age group\, we may separate into two sets to offer the same content at different levels of engagement.\n \nDesert Dreaming is an indoor walk in the conservatory at Matthaei Botanica Gardens.

SUMMARY:Tours:Sunday Drop-In Tour | Everything Old Is New Again
DESCRIPTION:This drop-in tour examines the fascinating overlaps found in artworks\, whether created in the ancient Mediterranean\, during the European Renaissance\, or in the modern era. “Everything Old Is New Again” explores artifacts within the Kelsey\, likening them to more recent famous works of art found outside the museum’s walls. Works such as Marc Chagall’s *I and the Village* will be compared to the Djehutymose coffin\, and we will discuss Kelsey’s naturalistic Fayum portrait in comparison to Leonardo da Vinci’s *Mona Lisa*\, to name a few. This tour will make about eight stops within the Kelsey\, accompanied by large photographs of artwork outside the museum.\n\nThis event is free and open to all visitors. If you have any questions or concerns regarding accessing this event\, please visit our accessibility page at https://myumi.ch/zwPkd or contact the education office by calling (734) 647-4167. We ask for advance notice as some accommodations may require more time for the university to arrange.
