SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Learning seminar in algebraic combinatorics - The Tropical Totally Positive Grassmannian
DESCRIPTION:Building off of last week's talk\, we will discuss the tropical totally positive Grassmannian\, Trop+(Gr(k\,n)). First introduced by Speyer and Williams in 2003\, the tropical totally positive Grassmannian came out of work studying the totally positive part of the tropicalization of an affine variety. After briefly looking at those results\, we'll focus our attention on the fan structure of the tropical totally positive Grassmannian. If there's time\, we'll show that the fan associated to Trop+(Gr(2\,n)) is combinatorially the fan dual to the type A_{n-3} associahedra.

SUMMARY:Class / Instruction:Canvas Accessibility for Panorama
DESCRIPTION:Join ITS-Accessibility for an engaging\, in-depth training session on using Panorama to enhance the accessibility of your Canvas course site. Panorama is a powerful accessibility tool integrated into Canvas that enables instructors and instructional support staff to create\, scan\, and fix digital content for accessibility directly within Canvas. In addition\, Panorama allows students to automatically generate alternative formats of Canvas content and attached files\, ensuring materials are accessible in the formats that work best for them. This training will provide practical guidance and step-by-step demonstrations to help you identify and resolve potential accessibility barriers\, making your Canvas course more inclusive and user-friendly for everyone.\n\nClick the links below to register to receive the link \nThursday\, January 15th @2:00 (https://umich.zoom.us/meeting/register/5CRARUILQ6-FeCDysxzFKQ)\nWednesday\, January 28th @ 2:00 (https://umich.zoom.us/meeting/register/6ru7-91WROSg6dvtu2Gwdw)

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Algebraic Geometry Seminar: Abelian motives and Shimura varieties
DESCRIPTION:When one assumes the existence of Grothendieck's motivic paradise (Hodge\, Tate\, and standard conjectures)\, the theory of Shimura varieties becomes almost as simple as that of Shimura curves\, at least conceptually. In the talk\, I'll describe a motivic paradise that has most of the same consequences as Grothendieck's\, and I'll discuss what is needed to prove that it exists.
