SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Student Combinatorics: Symmetric Functions and the Skein of the Annulus
DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, we'll explore a connection between symmetric functions and skein theory. We'll begin by reviewing the necessary background on both topics. Then\, we'll discuss a proof by Lukac that there are linearly independent elements $Q_\lambda$ in the skein of the annulus which obey the same multiplication rules as the Schur functions $s_\lambda$.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:GLNT: Categorical equivalences in Local Geometric Langlands
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: Let F be an equal characteristic local field and G a reductive group. It is known that by type theory that representations of G(F) can be understood as modules over various associative algebras\, called Hecke algebras. In particular tamely ramified principle series are modules of the affine Hecke algebra. Based on this interpretation and a realization of the affine Hecke algebra using equivariant K-theory\, Kazhdan and Lusztig proved the Deligne-Langlands correspondence. A geometrization of such correspondence was studied by Roman Bezrukavnikov\, by proving a coherent realization of the affine Hecke category. In this talk\, I will give an equivalence between certain deeper level Hecke categories with affine Hecke categories of a smaller group H (usually a twisted Levi of loop group LG)\, therefore relating wildly ramified representations with tamely ramified ones of H.

SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:IOE 813: Brainstorming ways to enhance emergency support for teenagers in mental health crisis
DESCRIPTION:About the speaker: \nAndrew M. Fine\, MD\, MPH\, Senior Associate Physician in Pediatrics\, Boston Children's Hospital\, Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Emergency Medicine\, Harvard Medical School.\n\nAbstract: \nAs mental health issues among teenagers continue to rise in the U.S.\, pediatric emergency departments are increasingly serving on the frontline. However\, these settings often face limited resources\, stretched staff\, and long wait times for inpatient treatment\, each of which can compromise patient experience and quality of care. It’s a safety net on the cusp of collapse. Together\, along with experts\, clinicians\, and community stakeholders\, we will explore innovative strategies to enhance the experiences of teenagers presenting to the emergency department amid mental health crises. Join us in brainstorming strategies to best support these patients—whether through preventative health\, emergency department care\, or expedited placement—and prevent our safety net from collapsing.\n\nThis event is a part of IOE 813 \"Providing Better Healthcare Through Systems Engineering.\". SUMMARY:Careers / Jobs:Anduril Information Session @ Michigan
DESCRIPTION:Anduril is coming to Michigan's campus this fall\, and we hope to see you there! Update on Location: we will now be at EECS 1500Thank you!For this info session we will have engineers share about Anduril\, our products\, and what they are working on at the company. We will also have a recruiter share about our intern program: what our interns work on\, events\, and we'll have time for Q&amp\;A with our attendees.Anduril Industries is a defense technology company with a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. By bringing the expertise\, technology\, and business model of the 21st century’s most innovative companies to the defense industry\, Anduril is changing how military systems are designed\, built and sold. Anduril’s family of systems is powered by Lattice OS\, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a realtime\, 3D command and control center. As the world enters an era of strategic competition\, Anduril is committed to bringing cutting-edge autonomy\, AI\, computer vision\, sensor fusion\, and networking technology to the military in months\, not years.Due to our roles having access to export-controlled items\, Anduril is generally only able to consider applicants who meet the definition of a “U.S. person.”This means that the individual must be a U.S. citizen or national\, a lawful permanent resident\, a refugee\, or an asylee. SUMMARY:Workshop / Seminar:Dialoguing with Yesterday\, or Un-doctrinating
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with U-M Library\, local artist and educator Nick Azzaro will lead participants to create layered statement pieces using the pages of out-of-use school library books. After selecting several books to create artwork with\, participants will tear pages from one book to alter\, which can be done by crossing words out\, drawing pictures\, writing new text\, etc. They will then wheatpaste those pages to a provided surface\, entirely covering it to create the first layer. They will then repeat this process with a different book layer after layer. \n\nRSVP needed: http://undoctrinating.rsvpify.com \nMaximum number of participants: 15\n\nAre you attending one of these workshops? You can submit your work for our Take Care Student Exhibition.\nMore info and submission form here: https://artsinitiative.slideroom.com/#/login/program/79201\n\n•••\n\nThe Arts Initiative\, in partnership with Wolverine Wellness\, is launching a series of free art-making workshops for the *Take Care *AY 2024-25 focus. These workshops are an opportunity to create art\, brush up on dance techniques\, and other artistic forms that do not require any prior experience. Led by local and regional artists\, the workshops are open to the entire U-M and local community. All supplies necessary will be provided at the workshop.\n\nFor questions or to request accessibility accommodations\, please contact Félix Zamora-Gómez at (felixzg@umich.edu. )
