SUMMARY:Performance:McNeal
DESCRIPTION:Author Jacob McNeal has finally achieved his dream: The Nobel Prize for Literature\, and all the trappings that come with it. But the spiraling McNeal has little space to enjoy the honor\, as his health\, personal relationships\, and professional reputation all teeter on the edge of disaster. McNeal himself threatens to push them all over as he delves deeper into his use of AI to tell stories that might not be his to tell. Written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Ayad Akhtar (*Junk: The Golden Age of Debt*)\, *McNeal* marked Robert Downey Jr.’s Broadway debut when it premiered in 2024.\n\nWritten by Ayad Akhtar\nDirected by Geoff Packard\n

SUMMARY:Performance:Much Ado About Nothing
DESCRIPTION:Department of Musical Theatre students demonstrate their acting skills in this non-musical studio production of the play *Much Ado About Nothing*\, one of William Shakespeare’s most beloved and oft-performed comedies. When the soldiers of Don Pedro’s army return to Messina\, Italy\, romance is not far behind for young lovers Claudio and Hero. With the arrival of Don Pedro’s brother Don John\, however\, comes a plot that threatens to ruin their romance before it has a chance to really begin. Intertwined with this plot is the witty banter of Benedick and Beatrice\, who are drawn to and repulsed by each other in equal measure. \n\nWritten by William Shakespeare\nDirected by Jess Bogart\n

SUMMARY:Performance:Symphony Band
DESCRIPTION:There are few American composers\, living or past\, whose music is more widely recognized and loved than John Williams. With countless pieces written for stage and screen\, American icons and legendary events\, Williams' music is the soundtrack of the American spirit. His music for film has taken on a life of its own well beyond the movies for which his melodies were composed\, and he has conducted the greatest orchestras the world over. Now in his 92nd year\, the Symphony Band celebrates the inimitable legacy of John Williams and his music\, and this all-Williams program will also pay tribute to the 50th anniversary of the release of the very first *Star Wars* movie.\n\nJason Fettig\, conductor\n\nPROGRAM\n*The Star Spangled Banner*\, John Williams\nMarch from \"Superman\"\, John Williams / trans. SUMMARY:Performance:Baroque Chamber Orchestra
DESCRIPTION:The University of Michigan’s Baroque Chamber Orchestra studies and performs repertoire from the late Renaissance\, Baroque\, and the early Classical periods. While directed by faculty members Aaron Berofsky\, baroque violin\, and Joseph Gascho\, harpsichord/organ\, many performances are led by the students themselves. Using period instruments and replicas from the university’s growing Stearns Collection\, the musicians gain vital hands-on experience and learn about the history and context of early music and performance practice.

SUMMARY:Performance:Murakami by the Sea: An original work inspired by the work of Haruki Murakami
DESCRIPTION:*Murakami by the Sea* is a full-length devised work inspired by novels and short stories by Haruki Murakami (the award-winning Japanese writer of *Kafka on the Shore*\, among many others). SUMMARY:Performance:Kim Richey
DESCRIPTION:“an artist known for beguiling melodies and a supple turn of a phrase.” –American Songwriter\n\nIn January 2024\, Kim Richey found herself in Mexico\, gazing out at a sea of people singing along to “I’m Alright\,” one of her classic tracks. The three folks on stage with the veteran\, Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter were also raising their voices in harmony. To her right sat Brandi Carlile\, to her left\, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Brandy Clark. The formidable foursome was participating in a songwriter’s round only half-jokingly dubbed “Titans of Americana” at Carlile’s female-forward Girls Just Wanna Weekend festival on the Riviera Maya in Mexico.\n\n“That was nuts looking out and seeing everybody arm-waving and singing along\,” says Richey\, still both incredulous and cheered by the memory of performing with that supergroup and later appearing alongside other Girls Just Wanna Weekend-ers Annie Lennox\, Lucius\, Allison Russell\, and Sarah McLachlan among others. “It was just like\, ‘wow’!”\n\nThe good news for fans of this particular Titan is a whole new batch of songs to sing along with and arm wave to with the release of her 10th studio album Every New Beginning. The 10 songs on Every New Beginning represent the full spectrum of the Ohio native’s gifts as both a revered songwriter who can leap from melancholy to mirthful in a single couplet — whose songs have been recorded by the likes of Brooks and Dunn\, Patty Loveless\, and Mary Chapin Carpenter — and owner of one of music’s truly celestial voices. \n\nThat voice\, which Brandi Carlile has cited as formative in crafting her own style\, is a widely sought after harmony instrument and has been featured on scores of albums including Jason Isbell’s acclaimed Southeastern\, Trisha Yearwood’s Everybody Knows\, Heartbreaker by Ryan Adams\, Reba McEntire’s Starting Over\, and Has Been by Capt. Kirk himself\, William Shatner\, among many others.
