SUMMARY:Exhibition:Resistance is Fertile: Celebrating 30 Years of Cultivating Change
DESCRIPTION:Resistance Is Fertile honors the founding moment of the Institute for Research on Women & Gender\, while speaking to the present. The institute was established because faculty members believed that research on women\, gender\, and sexuality required an institutional commitment to thrive. That belief was itself a form of resistance—to disciplinary silos\, to marginalization\, to the idea that such scholarship was peripheral.\n\nThis theme reminds us that resistance is not merely reactive\; it is constructive. When rooted in collaboration and sustained through infrastructure\, it produces knowledge that reshapes disciplines\, institutions\, and public life.\n\nThis exhibit celebrates 30 years of IRWG—its history\, its programs\, and the people whose vision and labor built it into what it is today. Through archival materials\, milestones\, and stories\, we trace the evolution of an institute that has continually expanded the boundaries of research in women\, gender\, and sexuality.\n\nThis exhibit centers growth\, collaboration\, and intellectual creativity—honoring the sustained efforts\, bold ideas\, and collective care that have shaped IRWG’s legacy and continue to guide its future.\n\nHosted and sponsored by the Institute for Research on Women and Gender and the Department of Women’s and Gender Studies\, U-M. \n\nLocated on the first floor of Lane Hall (204 S. State Street)\, the Exhibit Space is free and open to the public\, M-F\, 9am-4pm.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Up\, Up\, And Away: A History of Ballooning in America
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit examines the history of balloon flight in the United States from Blanchard’s first ascension to the early twentieth century. In the age of bird’s-eye views\, which imagined a perspective on American cities and towns from high in the air\, balloonists were the only people who actually had the opportunity to see what the growing nation looked like from above. As the nineteenth century progressed\, ballooning became a lucrative (if dangerous) business\, as crowds gathered to watch balloons launch\, and to see aeronauts risk their lives high in the air. Over time\, the image of the hot air balloon proliferated in American print culture\, being used to sell goods ranging from thread to canned beef. We hope that this exhibit conveys some of the thrill that would have come from seeing people fly for the first time.\n\nOn view May 22-August 28\, weekdays from 12-4 pm.

SUMMARY:Performance:Marty O'Reilly
DESCRIPTION:“a culmination of blues\, folk\, and soul inflections that altogether develop a sound that’s fresh and cosmic.” –Pop Matters\n\nMarty O’Reilly’s music feels timeless\, like an old story told in a new way. His raw\, soulful voice and gritty guitar playing form the foundation of a sound rooted in Americana. Drawing inspiration from folk icons like Woody Guthrie\, blues legends like Howlin’ Wolf\, gospel pioneers like Sister Rosetta Thorpe\, and storytellers like Tom Waits\, Marty’s music captivates and connects audiences.\n\nHis live performances aren’t just concerts\; they’re cathartic experiences. From soft and haunting moments to wild and electric highs\, his shows linger with you long after the lights come up. Marty’s songs dig deep into the human experience\, exploring themes of loneliness\, connection\, love\, and loss. Whether performing solo or with a full band\, he brings listeners into his world\, making them feel like part of the story.\n\nOver years of relentless touring and self-funded albums\, Marty has built a dedicated following. He’s shared the stage with Shakey Graves\, St. Paul & The Broken Bones\, and Sarah Jarosz and played festivals like Bottlerock and High Sierra Music Festival. Through it all\, he remains focused on creating music that is honest\, meaningful\, and profoundly real.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:Muted Volumes: Book-Objects\, Patterned Papers\, and the Closed Stacks of Buhr
DESCRIPTION:This exhibit in the Clark Library rotunda focuses on handmade decorative patterned papers when exploring books stored at the library's Buhr Offsite Shelving Facility. Decorative paper\, noticed when walking through the stack's aisles or surprising you when you casually flip through a book\, can really catch your eye. But because the Buhr stacks are closed from browsing\, the density and dimensionality of its nearly 3 million books are reduced to title searches on a screen.\n\nAs a response to these reflections\, artist and library staff member Stephanie Osorio shares her handbound unopenable book-objects as symbolic stand-ins for forgotten books at Buhr — the books that don’t get a chance to be noticed. Along with the book-objects are the carved woodblocks that made prints to decorate them. Some books from Buhr that inspired this project with their original decorated patterned papers will also be on display.\n\nView the exhibit anytime the Hatcher Library is open\, and join us for an opening reception on Thursday\, May 14th\, 5pm - 6:30pm\, for an opportunity to hear from the artist and engage with the book-objects.

SUMMARY:Exhibition:2026 Second Year Studio Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:\n\nAugust 24 - October 18\, 2026\nExhibition Reception: October 1\, 1-2:30 p.m.\n\nIn their second year\, Stamps students complete a major milestone: Second Year Studio (SYS). It’s a course where\, per the syllabus\, students \"develop the capacity to work independently by identifying\, exploring\, and pursuing a single independent project that involves multiple iterations.\" Each student takes their own path\, encountering questions that can shape the direction of their creative practice. At the end of the semester\, students formally report on their experience in a presentation called the Sophomore Review and receive direct feedback from a panel of Stamps faculty members. \n\nInstalled throughout the Art & Architecture Building\, the Second Year Studio Exhibition showcases the art and design work created in this pivotal course by our rising third-year and transfer students\, and invites first-year students and other newcomers to explore both the building and the creative possibilities ahead. The show features 50 students who have volunteered to participate\, yet it honors every Stamps major who reaches the SYS milestone. \n\nThe works in this year’s exhibition engage a wide range of questions and concerns. Students investigate memory\, identity\, materiality\, ecology\, technology\, labor\, social relationships\, and the built environment through equally diverse formal approaches. DESCRIPTION:As the Medical School celebrates the anniversary of its opening in the fall of 1850\, and Michigan Medicine marks the 100th anniversary of the opening of the \"Old Main\" University Hospital that served as its flagship from 1925 to 1986\, a free museum exhibit explores 175 years of medical education\, research and clinical care. \n\nOpen to the public at the Museum on Main Street operated by the Washtenaw County Historical Society\, the exhibit includes artifacts\, photos and facts about how U-M's medical community grew from humble beginnings on the Diag to become one of the nation's largest and most respected academic medical centers. It also asks visitors to ponder their own attitudes and experiences\, and to submit memories and photos of their time working\, studying\, volunteering or receiving care at U-M's medical campus and beyond. There are also activities for young visitors.\n\nThe museum is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.\n\nFull details about the exhibit\, including parking instructions and how to book a free private group tour on a weekday\, are available at http://michmed.org/museum\n\nThe museum has an accessible entrance at the rear of the building.

SUMMARY:Performance:Maddy Ringo
DESCRIPTION:A fresh voice in the timeless tradition of American folk music\n\nSince picking up a music career through busking on the streets of Toronto\, Maddy Ringo has been a fresh voice in the timeless tradition of American folk music. The daughter of a born-and-bred Canadian and an American peacenik\, Maddy learned the Rise Up Singing catalogue as a seven-year-old\, laying her foundation in the works of Joan Baez\, Arlo Guthrie\, Bob Dylan\, and the like. Now\, based in Ann Arbor\, having recently graduated from the University of Michigan\, she has made her way to the forefront of the Southeast Michigan folk scene with her multi-instrumental songwriting and rich mezzo vocals. Her latest release\, “Going Up That Mountain” deals with the weight of coming of age in an ever-accelerating world.

While these subjects recur across the exhibition\, what stands out most is not a dominant thematic direction\, but a shared commitment to sustained inquiry.\n\n–Sally Clegg\, Lecturer & Student Exhibitions Coordinator & Pedram Baldari\, Assistant Professor\n\nExhibiting Artists and Designers\n<ul class=\"twocol\">\n\nNailah Aguilar\n\nAkylah Archer\n\nZachary Berenbaum\n\nSamantha Blaine\n\nLauren Boyce\n\nKas Brajkovic\n\nAnna Browne\n\nLilah Chow\n\nIsabella Cortes\n\nMagdalena Dimovski\n\nLeah Elliott\n\nAya Fadlelzebair\n\nM. SUMMARY:Performance:The Brudi Brothers
DESCRIPTION:Folk music with a bluesy edge and warm\, interwoven sibling harmonies\n\nThe Brudi Brothers are a dynamic Americana band hailing from Seattle\, Washington. Often recognized as the city's favorite buskers and street poets\, they are known for their raucous performances and distinctive old-world soul that stands out in the world of modern music. They gained rapid popularity worldwide when a live clip of their latest single\, \"Me More Cowboy Than You\,\" went viral\, with over 10 million views cumulatively and quickly rising. Comprising of three brothers\, Johannes\, Conrad\, and George\, the boys have an inimitable musical and performance dynamic replete with wit and humor. They are all multi instrumentalists and have been playing together since they were kids. They have traveled the world together\, their musical commentary drawing from adventures hitchhiking through Europe\, living on sailboats\, and performing for the Queen of The Netherlands to create their unusually hypnotic sound.\n\nListeners who discovered the band via their social media virality have eagerly taken to their 2020 album\, See You Soon. Recorded on a houseboat in Amsterdam with a sound engineer paid in beer and tobacco\, the project encapsulates a thoughtful and intimate slice of life immediately preceding the COVID-19 pandemic. They traverse genres with poignant and vibrant lyrics\, understated instrumentation\, and playful harmonies.\nThe Brudi Brothers have carved out a unique space in the Pacific Northwest music scene and beyond\, pairing familiar beloved influences with blood harmonies and melodies unique to the brothers. With a blend of old school folk\, country\, and rock-and-roll feel\, the band is known for their ability to play to any crowd. Their infectious sound and electrifying chemistry on stage has earned them a loyal fanbase\, who can't get enough of the band's simultaneous earnestness and irreverence.

SUMMARY:Performance:VOICES feat Ki5 & Friends
DESCRIPTION:Join as Ann Arbor native Ki5 - vocal architect and live looping artist Kyler Wilkins - performs and invites local musicians Josie G and David Magumba to take the stage sharing songs and stories of their craftsmanship\, dreams\, and triumphs along with all the other things that come with being a modern creator.\n\nBorn and raised in Benton Harbor\, Josie G is an R&B singer-songwriter\, vocal coach\, and music publishing consultant. With inspiration from her roots in gospel and classical training\, she artfully draws on her understanding and passion for music to serenade her audience with introspective lyrics and a static-charged\, “get cozied up with a hot cup of cocoa” voice. Since launching her debut and releasing standout tracks like “Set the Vibe\,” Josie G continues to create music rooted in healing\, revelation\, and love—offering a genuine journey through the human experience\, with her latest afro-vibes inspired EP called Gelato. Come connect with an artist with a heart for authenticity and community - meet Josie G.\n\nDavid Magumba is a professional studio musician\, artist\, and voice teacher creating music to reach all around the world. Raised in Cincinnati\, he has worked with the Detroit Opera chorus and has been recording as a studio musician and Soul/RnB/singer-songwriter. David has released a soundtrack piece\, along with his latest singles (with another on the way this fall) “Wooden Monarch\,” and “Connect.”\n\nVocalist\, songwriter\, and producer Kyler Wilkins from Ann Arbor\, Michigan has been performing as Ki5 using a loop station to build songs from scratch in full view of audiences since 2017. Having opened for Erykah Badu\, Reggie Watts\, and CeCe Peniston\, Ki5 represents himself as a seasoned Michigan artist who continues to spread his unique style of vocal-driven music to the masses. His vibrant\, harmonic composition style explores the human voice meshed with beatboxing and delivers familiar genres such as R&B\, pop\, soul\, and more. His honest\, empathetic\, and freeing style has been influenced by Bobby McFerrin\, Reggie Watts\, and Bon Iver and his latest passion other has been improvising full sets of music that make people want to move.\n\nVoices is a series of artist-cultivated concerts at The Ark conceived and created by Ann Arbor musician Kyler Wilkins\, AKA vocal looping artist Ki5. The series seeks to expand the representation of Michigan BIPOC artists and audiences at The Ark. Each show\, intentional time will be taken to get to know each artist in the form of brief interviews and musical breaks to have them speak about their journey as musicians and performers with the hope that people in the audience are more connected to and inspired by those voices.

SUMMARY:Performance:The Claudettes
DESCRIPTION:“A skewed cabaret band of blues\, jazz and rockabilly…a sensibility that feels equal parts James Dean and David Lynch.”—Minneapolis Star-Tribune\n\nSix albums into their lauded career\, the Claudettes (of Chicago) continue to put a fascinating new spin on American roots music. Blues and R&B are laced with punk spirit and film-noir moods to create the band’s singular “garage cabaret” sound. The Claudettes have earned worldwide acclaim with their recordings and concerts that are equal parts heart\, musicianship and theatrical flair. Force-of-nature vocalist Rachel Williams (who dominates the stage like a glam-rock rebirth of Annie Lennox and renowned pianist/songwriter Johnny Iguana join the positively heroic rhythm section of Zach Verdoorn (bass\, guitar\, vocals) and Michael Caskey (drums). Outside the Claudettes\, Iguana has toured with Junior Wells and Otis Rush\, played on many Grammy-nominated albums and recorded with Buddy Guy\, Junior Wells\, Derek Trucks\, Mick Jagger\, Keith Richards\, Johnny Winter and more. Johnny is also composer of the score for the Emmy-winning smash FX/Hulu series “The Bear.”\n\n“Chicago’s original recipe band…The Claudettes’ sonic playing field is the blues and everything after\, all tastefully and artfully blended together….Perhaps the band’s greatest super power: songwriting.”—NPR Music

DESCRIPTION:Fourth annual event!\n\nThe Ann Arbor Django Reinhardt Festival returns to The Ark for a joyous celebration of the music and legacy of jazz guitar pioneer Django Reinhardt. Hosted by guitarist Andrew Brown\, a longtime champion of Hot Club music in Michigan whose performances and educational efforts have helped cultivate the region’s Django community\, this year’s festival features an outstanding cast of musicians. Together they will be joined by the full Djangophonique crew—clarinetist Tyler Rindo\, vocalist Katie Lynne\, guitarist David Bendena\, and bassist Jorian Olk-Szost—for an evening of swinging rhythms\, dazzling solos\, heartfelt melodies\, and the infectious energy that has made jazz manouche a beloved musical tradition around the world.

SUMMARY:Performance:Maya de Vitry
DESCRIPTION:“the perfect soundtrack for uncorking that emotion and (defiantly) loving life again” –NPR\n\nOriginally from the green rolling hills of Lancaster County\, Pennsylvania\, Maya de Vitry is a Nashville-based fiddler-turned-songwriter with a voice that glides effortlessly between tenderness and strength. Her earliest years in the music industry are represented by the 4 full-length albums and 2 EPs with roots-Americana trio The Stray Birds\, with whom she toured year-round for 7 years throughout USA\, Canada\, and Europe. After this formative chapter\, she launched her solo career with her 2019 album Adaptations\, earning praise from Rolling Stone Country\, NPR Music\, and No Depression. Since then\, she has released three more full-length albums and multiple singles\, all of which are testaments to her personal reinvention and creative growth.\n\nEnergized by the spontaneity of live performance and a revelatory pursuit of truth in her lyric writing\, Maya de Vitry returns with her fifth full-length album\, All My Faith. Prioritizing presence and grit over studio polish\, she sounds joyously at home in the alt-country and indie-folk realms.\n\nFrom canyons to kitchens\, from cold lakes to highway truck stops\, the songs form a vibrant collage of joy\, sorrow\, and gut-wrenching honesty. Whether spinning an inspirational tale about hungover bachelorettes at the Nashville airport or exploring the prison of our own adaptations\, de Vitry brings a grounded confidence and quiet charisma rooted in her belief in the power of song to change us. \n\nThe album opens with a joyful surrender to time\, love\, and the unknown in the title track\, “All My Faith.” It expresses a commitment\, not just to a person\, but to showing up with true engagement in togetherness. At its heart\, the album reflects on the ways human beings choose to care for one another in myriad forms and on the generative healing and wisdom that emerge from our relationships—with each other and with the natural world. These 10 songs are the intoxicating sound of faith in action—a bandleader fully trusting in her life experiences\, her craft\, her collaborators\, and the moment. It captures the presence she has been cultivating in her live shows\, and hearing it magnified on record is its own revelation.

SUMMARY:Performance:How to Disagree Better: A Forum with Governors Spencer Cox and Governor Lujan Grisham
DESCRIPTION:Disagree Better\, in partnership with the University of Michigan\, will bring together Governors from across the political spectrum for a panel discussion on reviving America’s democracy through healthy conflict and constructive dialogue. \n\nKicking off the University of Michigan’s Democracy Week as the keynote event\, and in the lead-up to the November 2026 elections\, the conversation will highlight our shared civic values and spotlight leaders modeling disagreement as a civic skill. At a time when higher education is often the epicenter of polarization\, this partnership offers a tangible way to model constructive conflict resolution and champion civic engagement in our Leaders. \n\nThe event offers students and members of the University community an opportunity to engage directly with elected leaders who are disagreeing better and charting a new path for democracy\, one characterized by passion\, determination\, dignity\, and respect.\n\nEvent is free to the public\, but advance registration (open 8/13/26) is required by using the Related Link on this page.

SUMMARY:Performance:Margaret Glaspy
DESCRIPTION:The I Am Both Tour\n\nIn an era of excess and endless distraction\, the New York-based singer/songwriter Margaret Glaspy rejects the noise in favor of something far more essential. Glaspy has assembled a selection of songs that span from fictional vignettes to unguarded self-revelation to empathetic observation of the troubled world around her. Produced by Joe Henry (the three-time Grammy-winning singer/songwriter/producer known for his work with luminaries like Aimee Mann and Joan Baez)\, I Am Both ultimately stands as a striking new statement from one of the modern music canon’s most formidable songwriters.

SUMMARY:Performance:Dean Johnson
DESCRIPTION:“Johnson draws from the same well as John Prine or Tom Waits\, filtering the light of daily life through the grimy windows of a barroom” –Paste Magazine\n\nWith I Hope We Can Still Be Friends\, his debut for Saddle Creek\, Dean Johnson makes a pact with the listener: He will sing you his truth in the most heartfelt and charming way possible\, if you promise to keep an open mind.\n\nJohnson spent years tending bar at Al’s Tavern in Seattle’s Wallingford neighborhood. There\, he encountered folks of all stripes\; and regulars enthusiastically murmured about his budding musical greatness — There’s the best songwriter in town! Johnson was a kind of local lore\, a long-held family secret\, before the singer finally broke out in 2023 with his debut album\, Nothing For Me Please\, at age 50.\n\nI Hope We Can Still Be Friends is essentially an anthology that bridges Johnson’s earliest days as a songwriter with his present-day outlook and abilities. There are songs that have been in his setlists for years\, and others that will be new to fans. Each of its 11 tracks contains jocular social commentary or lovingly rendered affairs of the heart. \n\nLike John Prine or Kris Kristofferson’s country-adjacent sound\, devastating humor and economical profundity refracted through a barroom’s haze\, the album is filled with easygoing twang\, sad characters\, universal truths and the absurdity of everyday life.

SUMMARY:Performance:California Guitar Trio
DESCRIPTION:Celebrating 35 years\n\nFor 35 years\, California Guitar Trio (CGT) has redefined what a small ensemble can achieve on one stage. Since forming in 1991\, the group has captivated audiences with a singular sound that fearlessly crisscrosses genres — blending rock\, jazz\, classical\, and global influences\, with the occasional surf or spaghetti Western twist for good measure.\n\nFounded by Paul Richards\, Bert Lams\, and Hideyo Moriya\, CGT emerged from the creative lineage of guitarist Robert Fripp and quickly built a reputation for precision\, interplay\, and adventurous musical exploration. Today\, the trio continues its evolution with Paul Richards\, Bert Lams\, and Chapman Stick player Tom Griesgraber\, who joined the group in 2020. Griesgraber’s addition expanded the ensemble’s sonic palette with deep bass textures\, orchestral layering\, and new harmonic possibilities while preserving CGT’s signature musical language.\n\nEqually known for dazzling musicianship and genuine connection with audiences\, CGT concerts blend intricate three-part counterpoint with storytelling\, humor\, and an inviting stage presence that makes listeners feel like participants rather than spectators.

SUMMARY:Performance:David Nail: Down To The Studs
DESCRIPTION:Hailing from Kennett\, Missouri\, David Nail is well-respected up and down Music Row. Some might even call him a “tour de force” as his songs pull no punches in evoking the demons with which he has wrestled through much of his life. \n\nThe GRAMMY-nominated multi-platinum singer/songwriter’s early releases\, I’m About To Come Alive\, The Sound Of A Million Dreams\, I’m A Fire and Fighter\, ignited his reputation as an innovator and creative risk-taker yet left Nail feeling restless. This led to the departure of the only record company home he’d ever known\, MCA Nashville\, where he’d formed friendships that endure even now. Through dealing with his own journey of mental health and the feeling of needing to “rebel against what people expect you to be\,” Nail began making his most “organic” work to date\, David Nail & The Well Ravens\, with Jason Hall and Andrew Petroff. That project liberated Nail and propelled him into his next adventure. Writing solo for the next few months led to his debut solo independent EP Oh\, Mother\, a reflective piece of work. Of the title track\, Rolling Stone noted that “the song creeps in like a sunrise — quiet\, restrained cello and keys are the only underpinning for Nail’s powerful vocals at first. But then it slowly builds to something more massive and majestic.” That release was followed by Bootheel 2020 and Bootheel 2021\, projects dedicated to the singer/songwriter’s hometown in the “bootheel” of Missouri. Nail released an EP titled Best of Me in 2023 and the title track has seen heavy press support and country radio airplay. 2024 brought more touring than ever\, two great single releases “If I Could Call” and “Why” featuring Aubrie Sellers. \n\nNail plans on releasing the start of an excitingly different and elevated album project this year leaving behind any self-imposed restrictions. In Nail’s own words\, “My philosophy has always been\, I just hope to have a good enough year that I can have a next year while staying as true to myself as I possibly can.”

DESCRIPTION:“an alchemist of emotional blues ballads\, twanged-out toe-tapping rockers\, face-melting solos\, and everything in between.” –Jeff Milo\, Current Magazine\n\nIn 2016\, Laith Al-Saadi won America’s hearts and a spot in the Season 10 finale of NBC’s “The Voice.” Now he’s bringing an authentic blend of blues\, soul and classic rock to audiences around the nation and the world. Laith Al-Saadi has always had the perfect combination of Midwestern hustle and incredible musical chops—honed at the University of Michigan school of music in his hometown of Ann Arbor\, and on stages across the country working with legends like Taj Mahal\, Luther Allison\, Buddy Guy\, Son Seals\, Gregg Allman\, and B.B. King. \n\n“Laith is one of the most diverse talents we have\,” said Maroon 5 frontman and “The Voice” coach Adam Levine. “Incredible guitar player\, incredible singer.” Audiences have agreed\, propelling Laith’s album “REAL” to the top of the blues chart for five weeks and the top 20 album chart for two weeks. SUMMARY:Performance:The Bros. Landreth: Tumbling Wild Tour 2026
DESCRIPTION:New Music!\n\nThe Bros. Landreth are two-time JUNO Award winners from Winnipeg\, known for their blend of guitar-driven\, soulful\, blood harmony roots music. The band\, the core of which consists of brothers Dave and Joey Landreth\, has earned critical acclaim and a dedicated audience for their heartfelt songs\, inventive musicianship\, and powerful performances. From their early days attending their father's gigs as babies (\"Mom would tuck us into a bassinet and slide us under the bar tables\,\" says Dave)\, the brothers have spent a lifetime touring rock clubs\, theatres\, and music festivals across North America\, the UK\, Europe\, and Australia\, including stand-out performances at Byron Bay Blues Festival in Australia and Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival in Los Angeles. In 2023\, a banner year for the band\, Joey and Dave became Grammy-winning songwriters when Bonnie Raitt’s cover of their song\, Made Up Mind (from their first album\, Let it Lie)\, earned the Grammy for Americana Performance of the Year. The recognition was a fitting nod from one of their musical heroes\, as their own music draws inspiration from the well-worn records of their childhood — Bonnie Raitt's blues\, Little Feat's funky country-rock\, Ry Cooder's eclectic instrumentals\, Lyle Lovett's twangy traditionalism — culminating in a sound that salutes the past while planting its flag firmly in the present.\n\nDrawing on the energy of their recent live shows and a newfound sense of creative purpose\, The Bros. Landreth returned to the studio for their fourth full-length album\, Dog Ear. This record captures the spontaneous and collaborative spirit of their touring band\, which includes drummer Roman Clarke and producer Murray Pulver\, and marks a new\, more effortless approach to songwriting. The band describes the album as a deeply personal and emotionally resonant work\, exploring themes of family and the quest for stability amidst the itinerant life of a touring musician\, and says it's \"really about trying to figure out what it means to be a consistent force in the lives of the people you care about.\" With songs like the title track written for their children\, the album captures a raw and focused energy in the studio\, featuring a handful of magical first takes and special collaborations with pop vocalist Begonia\, keyboardist Glenn Patscha\,and a powerful guest vocal performance from their longtime hero\, Bonnie Raitt\, who appears on two tracks (Knuckles\, Half Moon Eyes).

SUMMARY:Performance:Palmyra
DESCRIPTION:Established in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley\, Palmyra captures the collective spirit of three Virginia natives: Teddy Chipouras\, Mānoa Bell\, and Sasha Landon. Palmyra straddles at least two musical worlds. They are\, on one hand\, a band from the South that plays traditional instruments and indeed once lived in the old-time locus of Floyd\, Virginia. Comparisons to and a kinship with The Avett Brothers and even Old Crow Medicine Show are inevitable. On the other hand\, Palmyra writes about grief\, gender dysphoria and identity\, and coming of age in songs that flirt with soul\, post-rock\, and even emo\; the South\, too\, is the place of My Morning Jacket\, Band of Horses\, Cat Power\, and now\, Palmyra. The band’s first full length LP\, Restless\, is out now on Oh Boy Records. Framed by moments of struggle\, solidarity\, and hard-won growth\, Restless is an unqualified ringer for anyone who loves the space where the roar of indie rock collides with raw folk.

SUMMARY:Performance:Devon Gilfillian Time Will Tell Tour
DESCRIPTION:Forged through the extreme highs and lows that come with living\, Time Will Tell is the album that Devon Gilfillian has been preparing to make his entire life. His third studio album was recorded in Nashville's legendary RCA Studio A\, live to tape on varispeed\, with mostly single vocal takes.\n\nGilfillian wrote and produced with a mighty team including longtime drummer and friend Jonathan Smalt and Neal H Pogue (Tyler the Creator\, OutKast) as executive producer. Gilfillian carries soul track to track through a sonic journey of rock\, funk\, and country elements\, magnetically vulnerable about his own failure and frailty.\n\nNo end is ever easy\, and what else is there in life than to go through? To get to where we're going\, we've got to suffer a little. Time Will Tell is the sound of Gilfillian doing just that while realizing what a blessing it is to be here at all.

SUMMARY:Performance:Joe Pug & Willie Watson
DESCRIPTION:A singer-songwriter known for his lyrical acumen and plaintive harmonica style\, Joe Pug dropped out of college and moved to Chicago where he worked as a carpenter before breaking into the city’s music scene. Since 2008 he has released a string of critically-acclaimed albums and toured heavily in the U.S. and abroad. Paste Magazine wrote of his music: “Unless your surname is Dylan\, Waits\, Ritter or Prine\, you could face-palm yourself to death trying to pen songs half as inspired.\" Additionally\, he is the creator and host of the popular podcast The Working Songwriter.\n\nSoon before Willie Watson turned 18\, he met God in an apple orchard. Or at the very least\, he met there a man named Ruby Love\, the older friend of a high-school buddy who had an enormous Martin guitar and a seemingly bigger understanding of the American folk songbook. Watson was existentially thirsty: A high-school dropout from upstate New York’s Finger Lakes\, he was fast on his way to his first heartbreak and in a first band that didn’t take itself seriously enough. But that night in an apple orchard that had always seemed magical\, at a graduation party for one of his bandmates and best friends\, Watson and Love sang a few of those old songs together—“Worried Man Blues” and “Tennessee Waltz.” It was the first time Watson had cried while singing\, the first time he had made the connection between making music and making sense of his life. He never saw Ruby Love again\, but within months of that foundational 1997 rendezvous\, he met the musicians with whom he’d soon start Old Crow Medicine Show. Call it revelation\, fate\, resurrection\, whatever you will\; for Watson\, more than a quarter-century later\, it was a duet with the divine.

SUMMARY:Performance:Dan Tyminski Band
DESCRIPTION:The pinnacle of modern bluegrass music\n\nDan Tyminski was six years old when his parents began taking him to fiddle contests\, square dances\, and bluegrass festivals across New England. For a young musician who would later become one of the biggest names in modern-day bluegrass\, those early experiences were life changing.\n\n\"Watching live music always spoke to me much louder than sitting in front of my record player\,\" he remembers. \"I loved it. Wherever music was being played\, I wanted to go watch. Years later\, I still feel that way.\"\n\nThroughout his 30+ year career\, Tyminski has left his mark in every corner of modern music. His voice famously accompanies George Clooney’s performance of the Stanley Brothers’ classic song\, “I Am A Man of Constant Sorrow\,” in the film\, Oh Brother\, Where Art Thou? and his vocal collaboration with Swedish DJ Avicii on the song “Hey Brother” was a global smash\, having been streamed more than a billion times to date. His diverse solo projects and years of work with Alison Krauss and Union Station have yielded troves of award-winning music. \n\nIn recent years\, Tyminski’s live shows with the Dan Tyminski Band have become bluegrass fan favorites and are regularly on the must-see lists among music fans of any genre. \n\nOver the course of his career\, Tyminski has also evolved into a prolific songwriter\, penning songs with Monty Criswell\, Phillip Lammonds\, Kristian Bush\, Ashley Monroe\, Chris Stapleton and many others. \n\nDan has been honored with 14 Grammy Awards and is a four-time Male Vocalist of the Year honoree by the International Bluegrass Music Association.

SUMMARY:Performance:Holly Bowling
DESCRIPTION:Cast aside any and all expectations.\n\nSolo pianist Holly Bowling is an artist who repeatedly defies convention\, breaks ceilings\, and eludes simplistic labels\, while bringing virtuosic playing\, emotional immersion\, and a thirst for invention to everything that she does. Acclaimed by Rolling Stone and having jammed with a long list of impressive company (Bob Weir\, Jim James\, Warren Haynes\, John Scofield\, Branford Marsalis\, and many more)\, Holly has established herself as a virtuoso pianist with her own musical voice. \n\nHolly has fostered a strong sense of identity while musically shapeshifting to the task at hand\, from joining Grateful Dead’s Phil Lesh for extended explorations of “Dark Star\,” to recording dance tracks with LP Giobbi. She is a frequent guest of Greensky Bluegrass\, with whom she recorded The Iceland Sessions EP in 2023 as well as appearing on the previous year’s Stress Dreams. Her solo piano arrangements span across genres\, featuring songs from The National and Nine Inch Nails to Phish and the Grateful Dead\, and have been featured in several independent films in addition to opening the door to performances at storied venues from Carnegie Hall to Red Rocks. \n\nIn 2015\, Holly arrived as an exciting outlier on Distillation Of A Dream: The Music Of Phish Reimagined For Solo Piano. A year later\, Better Left Unsung\, her sophomore release featuring the music of the Grateful Dead\, landed in the top 25 of Billboard’s Classical Album Chart.\n\nHolly co-founded improvisational rock outfit Ghost Light in 2018 with JRAD’s Tom Hamilton with whom she also released an instrumental duo album\, Lacuna\, in 2022. \n\nAfter releasing 2020’s Seeking All That’s Still Unsung (a second reimagining of Grateful Dead staples)\, Holly looks to flip the script once more with an upcoming album of original compositions.\n\nFans can count on her musical shapeshifting adventure continuing to cover new ground as she takes listeners with her into the unknown.

SUMMARY:Performance:Lindsay Lou
DESCRIPTION:“Guided by life experiences\, Lindsay Lou's sound and songwriting continues to evolve and intertwine her sturdy Bluegrass roots with progressive Americana and Folk.” –PBS\n\nLindsay Lou is commonly dubbed the Queen of festivals she plays as someone you’re highly likely to see sitting in with other bands and curating All Stars sets in addition to playing her own music. Her roots are in Michigan\, where she started making records\, including the artist defining Ionia\, and touring worldwide with The Flatbellys and The Sweet Water Warblers. Since making Nashville her home\, she’s toured with her folk/rock Queen of Time Band and acoustic/harmony driven Honey Moon Trio and has celebrated records like Southland and Queen of Time. She’s a bringer together of people and a purveyor of buttery\, sweet\, meaningful experience. In whatever ensemble she chooses to deliver her sound\, you hear the common thread of her love for traditional music and authentic new songs inspired by it.\n\nCo-produced by Lindsay Lou and Shani Ghandi\, Bluegrass Women is a ten song album of Bluegrass classics that were penned by women over the course of the genre’s history. The project honors women in a predominantly male fronted genre while featuring bands made up entirely of some of the best women and pickers in the scene today. Led by Lou\, the album features the likes of Molly Tuttle\, Sierra Hull\, Aoife O’Donovan and Sarah Jarosz (of I’m With Her)\, Laurie Lewis\, and many more.\n\n“Some of these songs I sang for many years before realizing they were penned by a wife/mother/female artist\,” says Lou. “As a woman\, it’s easy to feel like an outsider\, or like you don’t belong\, in a genre where there is a noticeable lack of representation of women among the forebears. To know that women’s voices made it into the traditional songs feels like a quiet win\, and I want to draw more attention to it.”

SUMMARY:Performance:An intimate evening with Copeland
DESCRIPTION:New music alongside old favorites\, with moments that feel close\, dynamic\, and reimagined for an intimate acoustic show\n\nLongevity in music comes through pushing yourself and expanding the possibilities of your sound. This has never been more true for Copeland on their latest effort Blushing\, a collection of 11 tracks that advance and evolve everything the trio of musicians has done up until now. The band\, which originally formed in Lakeland\, Florida in 2001\, has unveiled six albums\, spanning from their 2003’s debut Beneath Medicine Tree to 2016’s Ixora. While they began as a rock band\, Copeland’s music has explored multiple genres and pulled in various stylistic influences like electronic and symphonic. In the past the musicians have aptly melded these styles\, creating a unique amalgam of sounds. This time they wanted to take each sound and style and push it to its logical extreme.\n\nThe album is a strong step forward for Copeland\, who plans to continue writing and releasing music together for the foreseeable future. The band\, who have toured with the likes of Brand New\, Goo Goo Dolls\, Bob Mould\, Switchfoot\, Motion City Soundtrack and Guster\, will also tour on the new material. In many ways\, Blushing encapsulates the band’s impressive career\, while also showcasing their evolution into mature songwriters and producers. It reveals how the strength of each individual component that makes up Copeland’s sound.
