Methods of Survey Sampling is a moderately advanced course in applied statistics, with an emphasis on the practical problems of sample design, which provides students with an understanding of principles and practice in skills required to select subjects and analyze sample data. Topics covered include stratified, clustered, systematic, and multi-stage sample designs, unequal probabilities and probabilities proportional to size, area probability sampling, ratio means, sampling errors, frame problems, cost factors, and practical designs and procedures. Emphasis is on practical considerations rather than on theoretical derivations, although understanding of principles requires review of statistical results for sample surveys. The Shtetl, A Journey and Memorial, a limited- edition artist book that she wrote and illustrated comprising 9 intaglio prints in 1971, lies at the heart of the exhibition. In it she paid homage to the small Jewish towns in Poland (where her ancestors are from) before the Holocaust. This significant work was a touchstone for her artistic and professional career as it propelled her move from Michigan to Los Angeles in 1969.\n \nBorn and raised in Chicago, Weisberg moved to Ann Arbor to pursue her higher studies, she completed her B.Ed (1964), after spending three years in Perugia, Italy where she earned a Laurea di Belle Arti in 1962, and MFA (1965). Since her arrival in Los Angeles, Weisberg has been a formidable influence and mentor to decades of artists as an artist, Professor of Fine Arts and former Dean at the University of Southern California Roski School of Art and Design. Weisberg was the Director of the USC Initiative for Israeli Arts and Humanities, and the founder of the Jewish Artists Initiative of Southern California. Her first major survey in Los Angeles was in 1979 at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. She and Judy Chicago were the first two artists exhibited at The Women\u2019s Building, Los Angeles. Their solo exhibitions inaugurated that venue. Weisberg has had more than 80 solo exhibitions and nearly 200 group exhibitions internationally, including a major exhibition at the Norton Simon Museum, Pasadena and a retrospective, at the Skirball Museum, Los Angeles as well as a solo exhibition at the Huntington in San Marino. She is the recipient of many prestigious awards, some notable ones are the Printmaker Emeritus Award from the Southern Graphic Council International in 2015 and the Foundation for Jewish Culture\u2019s 50th Anniversary Cultural Achievement Award in 2011. Fluorescence-detected circular dichroism remains a primary detection scheme for chirality due to its sensitivity. However, since most biomolecules have a low dissymmetry factor in the visible range (~103), single-molecule detection of chirality is challenging even for fluorescent molecules. To achieve single-molecule fluorescence-detected circular dichroism, we are leveraging plasmonic nanoparticle substrates, which focus incident plane waves into locally varying near fields, to enhance the dissymmetry factor. By varying the substrate design and the incident polarization of the plane wave, we are optimizing the electric field density and optical chirality to enhance the differential fluorescence intensity of proximal chiral biomolecules. Because the electromagnetic landscape varies on the nanometer scale, the differential signal will be most enhanced within a sub-diffraction-limited area on the sample. We use single-molecule super-resolution microscopy to access these hotspots experimentally. I will present the chiroptical interactions of single pairs of cyanine dyes (aligned into J-aggregates by a double-stranded backbone to form right-handed fluorescent biomolecules) with chiral and achiral gold nanoparticles. Passive acoustic monitoring records sound produced over multiple levels of biological complexity which can be used to investigate and monitor biodiversity, behaviors such as feeding and spawning, and anthropogenic noise. By implementing acoustic monitoring, scientists and managers can identify key habitats for protection and measure how ecological communities respond to environmental changes (e.g. storm events, coastal development, eutrophication) in a cost-effective and low-impact manner. \r\n\r\nThis project brought together academic leaders in bioacoustics, estuarine ecology, and fisheries ecology with managers and staff from the Mission-Aransas, Rookery Bay, and North Inlet-Winyah Bay reserves. The goal was to develop a framework for a new acoustic monitoring program that could be integrated with reserve programs throughout the region, including: long-term system monitoring; targeted research, e.g. oyster reefs; stewardship applications, e.g. visitor use and anthropogenic noise; and education programs such as TOTE.
