Driven by findings from these studies, my current research in human populations uses molecular epidemiology and biostatistics techniques to address several questions related to the health of mom and her developing fetus during pregnancy:\r\n * Does exposure to endocrine disrupting chemicals in pregnancy impact maternal hormone levels and how does that impact fetal development via dysregulation of fetal fatty acid supply? (supported by K99\/R00 award from NIEHS). \r\n * Does exposure to phthalates in pregnancy impact maternal long-term cardiometabolic health, and does hormonal disruption mediate this relationship? (supported by R01 award from NIEHS). \r\n * Do mixtures of dietary micronutrients impact length of gestation, and does diet quality or exposure to environmental chemicals modify this relationship? (supported by Administrative Supplement from NIH Office of Dietary Supplements).\r\n * How does maternal obesity and adiposity impact biomarkers of reproductive endpoints in newborns, and does this differ in male vs. female babies? While the summer of 2021 marked the most recent \u201cracial reckoning\u201d in America, it was not the first instance of social unrest in America generated by racial conflict, and it certainly will not be the last. As America continues to wrestle with race, I-REP seeks to support interdisciplinary research that analyzes racial inequality and racial conflict in political and social institutions as well as in interpersonal behavior. Such research has been instrumental to multiple disciplines across the social sciences, including Political Science, Social Psychology, Sociology, Psychology, and Public Policy, for decades. And while race, racial identity, and racial conflict can (and often are) studied in their own right, research on almost any topic will benefit from an analysis that accounts for the impact of race across disciplinary boundaries.\r\n\r\nAt a time when politicians and political pundits are calling for the erasure of race from educational curricula, it is imperative that academia continue to create spaces for research on race to be discussed, evaluated, critiqued and improved.
