With no hidden parts, humble paper can act as a direct interface on sound, light, and time; making these abstractions tangible and accessible, in a way that more black-box tech obscures. It can show us what it means to be human.\nKelli Anderson is an artist, designer and paper engineer who pushes the boundaries of ordinary materials and formats by seeking out hidden possibilities in the physical and digital world. In 2008, she worked as part of a team to distribute a recreated copy of the New York Times -- filled entirely with articles from a Utopian future. The group won the Ars Electronica Prix Award of Distinction for their work. Lone Pi\u00f1on is a New Mexican string band, or \u201corquesta t\u00edpica\u201d, whose music celebrates the integrity and diversity of their region's cultural roots. With fiddles, upright bass, guitars, accordions, vihuela, and bilingual vocals, they play a wide spectrum of the traditional music that is at home in New Mexico. In addition, Detroit based singer and guitarist Camilla-Isabella Cantu, from the band Mariachi Feminil, will open the show with a solo set.\r\n\r\nIn 2014, Lone Pi\u00f1on was founded as a platform from which to explore and strengthen the oldest sounds of traditional New Mexico string music, sounds that had all but disappeared from daily life. Through relationship with elders, study of field recordings, connections to parallel traditional music and dance revitalization movements in the US and Mexico, and hundreds of local and national performances, they have brought the language of the New Mexico orquesta t\u00edpica back onto the modern stage, back onto dance floors, into a contemporary aesthetic\/artistic conversation, and into the ears of a young generation. The musicians of Lone Pi\u00f1on learned from elder musicians who instilled in them a respect for continuity and an example of the radicalism, creativity, and cross-cultural solidarity that has always been necessary for musical traditions to adapt and thrive in each generation. \r\n\r\nIn the past seven years Lone Pi\u00f1on has played extensively throughout the Southwest and the US and recorded four studio albums: \"Trio Nuevomexicano\u201d (2016), \"D\u00edas Felices,\" (2017), \"D\u00e1le Vuelo,\u201d(2019), and \u201cNuevas Acequias, R\u00edo Viejo: Traditional Music of Northern New Mexico\u201d(2020). In August 2018 Lone Pi\u00f1on was invited by the Library of Congress and the American Folklife Center to Washington DC, where they recorded a concert and an oral history of their work with New Mexican and Mexican musical traditions. \r\n\r\nIn 2019 they were honored to teach and perform Northern New Mexico fiddle and dance alongside traditional masters from across North America and Europe at Centrum\u2019s Festival of American Fiddle Tunes in Port Townsend, WA.
