However, archaeological remains and textual descriptions of the \u201cGreat Capital\u201d Dadu indicate that in comparison to previous and contemporaneous capitals constructed above and below the Great Wall, Khubilai Khan (r. 1260-1294) built a specifically Mongol gendered logic of tent cities (ordo) into the Yuan palatial complex. Moreover, the layout of Dadu aligned more closely with the spatial logic of cities in Mongolia and northeastern Asia than with urban traditions of \u201cChinese\u201d capitals, to which Dadu is often compared. I assert that in order to understand the logic of Dadu, we must look more towards the urban spaces and places that Mongols had been building and engaging with in the steppe.\r\n\r\nGateways of Charity: Mongol Sacred Kingship in Fourteenth Century Iran by Golriz Farshi\r\n\r\nThis paper explores charitable complexes built by Mongol Khans to historicize sacred kingship in the thirteenth and fourteenth century Iran. As new converts to Islam, the Mongol Khans deployed divine symbols and rituals to lay claim on their ancestral lineage and the inherited mantel of the Islamic Caliphate. This project was not limited to the discursive realm but was embodied in the charitable cities the Khans endowed. These mausoleum-centered endowed charitable city-cum-sovereign was the material representations of the Khan\u2019s sacred kingship. Inspired by Buddhist temples and Sufi shrines dotting the landscape of the greater Mongol Empire, endowed cities came to define sovereign piety and authority, linking imperial legitimacy to the circulation of goods and people around the sacred body of the Khan. I examine and reconstruct the physical space of these cities from their extant endowment deeds, ruins and remains to read the public performance of sacred kingship and the crafting of a new body politic. In specific, I explore endowed charitable cites built in or around Tabriz. Karen participated in the Longitudinal Study of Astronaut Health (LSAH).\r\n \r\nAt Lockheed Martin, she worked on Missile Launching Systems, Basic Research, Commercial Aircraft, Undersea Systems, SMART Structures, Robotics, and high-performance Military Aircraft. She developed embedded fiber optics technology. She is a Master Black Belt in 6-sigma and Lean Engineering.\r\n \r\nKaren serves on several university engineering and non-profit boards. Karen is the 2007 Distinguished Alumnus \u2013 Aerospace for the UM.\r\n \r\nKaren is now CEO of Karen Albrecht Enterprises, a Career and Personal Development Organization. Karen has delivered over 200 seminars for courses she developed and gives her time and knowledge to help students navigate career fairs and resumes. Recent data further suggest that integrating two event files allows one to encode abstract relationships (e.g., same vs. different) between recent (a) stimuli and\/or (b) responses from separate stimulus-response integration episodes. This could be useful for learning non-routine action sequences (e.g., how to play a new song on the piano), but little is known about whether encoding and retrieving abstract relationships influences sequential action control. To investigate this possibility, we used a task wherein only the retrieval of one or more abstract relationships between two stimuli and\/or two responses can produce sequential trial effects. We found that varying the abstract perceptual and\/or categorical similarity between two stimuli (Experiments 1 and 2) or the spatial similarity between two finger responses on the left and right hands (Experiment 3) exerted a strong influence on performance. These findings suggest that \u201cintegrated\u201d event files may support the learning of novel, non-routine action sequences.\r\n\r\nTanner\r\n\r\nTitle:\r\nBad guesses: Assumptions and behavior in situations of inequity\r\n\r\nAbstract:\r\nHuman beings report a desire to correct inequity, but fail to support policies that aim to reduce wealth gaps. Data from game theory and large-scale surveys suggest that this behavior is due to our increased tolerance of inequity when it is the result of a difference in skill or effort. Research on common cognitive biases such as a false belief in a just world and the headwinds\/tailwinds asymmetry finds that people often assume that an uneven distribution of wealth is a direct result of uneven ability or effort unless information about the cause of inequity is given. In a pair of experiments, we test whether voluntary investments towards balancing wealth distribution diminish as individuals are denied information about the comparative effort that they and their partners put into earning their finances.
