Given this long-term history of environmental perturbations and human impacts, paleobiology is well-suited to inform ongoing conservation needs in the Caribbean, which continues to be impacted by habitat degradation, species introductions, and other global change phenomena. I show how fossil, archaeological, and ecological data elucidate patterns of biodiversity loss and resilience, with direct implications for conservation management. While conservation paleobiology has significant potential in the Caribbean, it also faces major challenges in implementation, in part due to colonial histories and practices of parachute science. Then I will focus on many-electron interactions in two-dimensional (2D) moir\u00e9 crystals. We propose a way to enhance the crucial moir\u00e9 potential by manipulating the coupling between quasiparticles and carrier plasmons. Our calculation shows that this mechanism can effectively enhance the quasiparticle moir\u00e9 potential by a few times of magnitude, providing an excellent opportunity to control and observe correlated Hubbard physics in 2D moir\u00e9 crystals. In the second part of the talk, I will switch to the second-order light-matter interactions in PT-symmetric materials.
