The talk will focus on a population ecological neuroscience approach to understanding how poverty \u201cgets under the skin\u201d to impact brain development. Specifically, the talk will describe research linking parenting and neighborhood risk to neural function in emotion and regulatory regions of the brain using representative samples with enrichment for exposure to disadvantage. Additionally, the talk will cover current and future directions using novel designs (experimental, twin) to get closer to causal models.\r\n\r\nBio:\r\nLuke Williamson Hyde is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Michigan. He received his PhD in Clinical and Developmental Psychology with a concentration in cognitive neuroscience from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Hyde\u2019s research focuses on how adversity and inequality impact the developing child from the preschool years through early adulthood, as well as how these experiences shape brain and behavioral development.
