Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense” was one of the most influential works of the American Revolution. The first edition was published on January 10, 1776, with an initial print run of just 1,000 copies; but within weeks demand soared. The students of Andy Murphy’s POLISCI 495 course co-curated the exhibition “Revolutionary Paine” to document the whirlwind caused by its publication. On view at the Clements January 16-May 8, weekdays from 12-4 pm.",

This presentation will summarize current applications of AI and these areas and highlight areas of concern for these uses. The focus of the presentation is on the accuracy of the results obtained from AI applications and methods used for obtaining measures of accuracy. The presentation is guided by standards for educational and psychological tests that have been developed by AERA, NCME, and APA, and those produced by the International Test Commission (ITC). This is a very quickly changing area of development and investigation. Some ideas will be presented on the types of data that should be collected to document the types of AI procedures that are used and the quality of the results of the applications.

Biography
Mark Reckase is a University Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Michigan State University where he has taught courses in IRT, large scale assessment, and advanced psychometric methods. He has published in the areas of IRT, CAT, value-added modeling, and setting standards on educational tests. He has recently written a book on the theory of standard setting. Professor Reckase has been the president of NCME and the International Association for Computerized Adaptive Testing (IACAT), the vice president of Division D of AERA, and the secretary of the Psychometric Society. He has served as editor of the Journal of Educational Measurement and Applied Psychological Measurement.",
