Konstantin Gudauskas, a Lithuanian Jew born in Kazakhstan, is living in Bucha where he was granted asylum by Ukraine. After the Russian invasion begins on February 24th, 2022, Konstantin is able to travel freely to the occupied territories and evacuate civilians thanks to his Kazakhstani passport. Over the following months, he saves more than 200 people by leading them to safety and freedom, and he observes first-hand the horrors of war and atrocities of the Russian occupation. Among those rescued by Konstantin is the famous Ukrainian composer Igor Poklad. Throughout this time, he is advised and guided by Gaide Rizaeva, a Crimean Tatar and employee of the GUR (Main Intelligence Directorate), who was twice held captive by Russian separatists and was on death row before escaping.
