Cantilina was introduced to bells during his university years, when he played Cornell University's twenty-one bell chime. In graduate school, Cantilina studied with Dave Johnson at the House of Hope carillon in St. Paul, MN. In 2018-2019, he studied carillon in Belgium with Koen Van Assche with financial support from the Belgian American Education Foundation.
