"description":"Topological insulators are striking quantum materials which block electricity in their interior but support robust currents along their boundary. The bulk-edge correspondence is a physical principle that expresses the conductance of the boundary in terms of a bulk topological invariant. We will give a state-of-the-art review of the subject, including recent results in collaboration with Xiaowen Zhu. \r\n\r\nThis talk will be on Zoom. \r\n\r\nJoin Zoom Meeting\r\nhttps:\/\/umich.zoom.us\/j\/92322777234\r\n\r\nMeeting ID: 923 2277 7234\r\nPasscode: 878188",

From the archive to the dog sled, her research addresses how ecologies and people change each other. Her first book, Floating Coast: An Environmental History of the Bering Strait, won multiple awards and was named a best book by NPR and Nature, among others. Her writing has appeared in publications from The New Yorker and Granta to The American Historical Review and The Best American Science and Nature Writing. When not in the north, she lives in Rhode Island, where she is currently the Dean\u2019s Associate Professor of History and Environment and Society at Brown University.\r\n\r\nThis event presented by the Eisenberg Institute for Historical Studies. It is made possible in part by a generous contribution from Kenneth and Frances Aftel Eisenberg.",
