From the archive to the dog sled, her research addresses how ecologies and people change each other. Her first book, Floating Coast: An Environmental History of the Bering Strait, won multiple awards and was named a best book by NPR and Nature, among others. Her writing has appeared in publications from The New Yorker and Granta to The American Historical Review and The Best American Science and Nature Writing.
