The 5f heavy fermion system of URu2Si2 is famous for an unconventional “hidden order” (HO) phase transition at T0=17.5K that has been a topic of study for 35 years. A new model is proposed for the underlying physics to be the existence of a van Hove singularity saddle-band dispersion at the Brillouin zone N-point that is only a few meV below the Fermi level, and thus thermally active at T0. The new model, based on temperature-dependent angle resolved photoemission (ARPES) measurements in comparison to DMFT electronic structure calculations [1], is further confirmed by additional ARPES observation of the N-point spectral and dichroic changes for various chemically doped phases with different ferromagnetic, antiferromagnetic or non-magnetic ground states.

[1] J.
Non-abelian Hodge theory relates topological and algebro-geometric objects associated to a compact Riemann surface. More precisely, complex representations of the fundamental group are in correspondence with algebraic vector bundles, equipped with an extra structure called a Higgs field. This yields a transcendental matching between two very different moduli spaces: the character variety (parametrizing representations of the fundamental group) and the Hitchin moduli space (parametrizing Higgs bundles). In 2010, de Cataldo, Hausel, and Migliorini proposed the P=W conjecture, which links precisely the topology of the Hitchin integrable system and the Hodge theory of the character variety. I will introduce the conjecture, review its recent proofs, and discuss how the geometry hidden behind the P=W phenomenon is connected to other branches of mathematics.",

So-called “anti-woke” schooling efforts have resulted in the dismantling of DEI infrastructures in numerous universities and school districts, alongside statewide adoptions of right-wing curricula that reinvents histories on race and racism in the U.S. Anti-trans actors have successfully lobbied for bans on gender-affirming care and have spearheaded campaigns that target all domains of trans life, ranging across access to bathrooms, medicine, sports, and learning. Our home institutions have declared the COVID-19 pandemic to be over, all while immunocompromised, chronically ill, and disabled people continue to die.

In the midst of this onslaught, how do we survive, much less maintain optimism? This roundtable and workshop considers digital storying as a means for maintaining and amplifying community.

This event will be held on Zoom. We want to make our events accessible to all participants. CART services will be provided. If you anticipate needing accommodations to participate, please email Giselle Mills at gimills@umich.edu.

Register to attend on Zoom: https://myumi.ch/EPMnk",
