The editors also raised some of the following questions:\n\n\u2013 Is it possible to envision a way forward in this present moment?\n\u2013 Is it possible to imagine together an equitable future that will account for the atrocities and injustices of the past and still make room for a Palestine and an Israel on the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea?\n\u2013 Is a dialogue based on honesty and accountability possible at all anymore?\n\u2013 Are dialogues about Palestine and Israel in academia at all beneficial?\n\nScholars across various disciplines (literary and cultural studies, anthropology, history), from around the globe, responded to the call and these questions. Her work explores historical art forms through the lens of personal subjectivities, using a range of visual and literary sources. Working at different scales and on varied surfaces, her contemporary practice critically engages a wide range of visual methods, materials and styles.\n\nSheikh's solo exhibition 'Fractured Skies' at The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York will be on view from September 27, 2026 through June 13, 2027. Recent exhibitions include 'The Imaginary Institution of India' at the Barbican Centre in London (2024), the Sharjah Biennial 15 titled 'Thinking Historically in the Present' (2023), the Dhaka Art Summit (2020), the Kochi-Muziris Biennale (2018), Documenta 14 in Kassel and Athens (2017), and 'Each night put Kashmir in your dreams' at the Art Institute of Chicago (2014). Some argue that we are entering a singularity -- a moment when old rules are obsolete; and new ones, impossible to predict. Given that, is there anything at all we can glean about the future of AI and learning? In this talk, I will present a few things we know as a basis for conjecture and make some guesses based on three decades of work in technical AI, societal impacts of digital technology, and faculty governance at a large public university wrestling with this polarizing technology.\n\nKentaro Toyama is W. K. Kellogg Professor of Community Information at the University of Michigan School of Information, where he researches digital technology's impact on society, especially on its marginalized communities. Previously, Kentaro taught at Ashesi University in Ghana and co-founded Microsoft Research India, where he did research on the applications of digital technology to education and international socio-economic development.
