This lightly guided play takes place in the nature art area of the Gaffield Children\u2019s Garden. Young children will have hands-on fun while taking a closer look at nature, and parents will leave with easy ideas to encourage creative nature play at home. No registration, free event. First to arrive, first to play. Kids can join in as spaces open during the pop-ups. Suggested ages 3-7. Please note, all materials stay at Gaffield Children\u2019s Garden unless otherwise specified.",

"description":"In this paper, we tackle the dynamic mean-variance portfolio selection problem in a modelfree manner, based on (generative) diffusion models. We propose using data sampled from the real model P (which is unknown) with limited size to train a generative model Q (from which we can easily and adequately sample). With adaptive training and sampling methods that are tailor-made for time series data, we obtain quantification bounds between P and Q in terms of the adapted Wasserstein metric AW 2. Importantly, the proposed adapted sampling method also facilitates conditional sampling. In the second part of this paper, we provide the stability of the mean-variance portfolio optimization problems in AW 2. Then, combined with the error bounds and the stability result, we propose a policy gradient algorithm based on the generative environment, in which our innovative adapted sampling method provides approximate scenario generators. We illustrate the performance of our algorithm on both simulated and real data. For real data, the algorithm based on the generative environment produces portfolios that beat several important baselines, including the Markowitz portfolio, the equal weight (naive) portfolio, and S&P 500.\r\nJoint work with Erhan Bayraktar and Fengyi Yuan.",

"description":"The Fast Multipole Method (FMM) was dubbed one of the \"Top 10 algorithms\" of the 20th century by SIAM editors, along with other household names such as the Monte Carlo method, Quicksort, and Krylov subspace iterative methods. The FMM addresses the high computation cost for pairwise interactions in specific N-body problems in many areas of physics, for example electrostatic potentials of charged particles or gravitational forces among stars and galaxies. The problem, which naively computes O(N^2) pairs of interactions, can be reduced to O(N) using the multipole expansion as an approximation for far interactions. The method comes with clear error bounds for the approximation and allows for many subsequent extensions. In this talk, I will walk through the main theorems in Greengard and Rocklin's original paper in 1987[1], explain the algorithm, and give a survey of several generalizations of this algorithm that allows it to be applied to a wide range of problems.\r\n\r\n[1] L.
