Their coexistence offers a promising route toward realizing Majorana zero modes and fault-tolerant quantum technologies. While studies of topological materials and electron-phonon coupling have largely relied on single particle descriptions, the role of strong electronic correlations remains unresolved. In particular, it is unclear (i) how correlations modify electron-phonon coupling [1] and lattice dynamics in determining superconducting transition temperatures and (ii) how electron-electron interactions drive topological systems beyond the single-particle limit. \n\nIn this talk, I will discuss our efforts to address these questions using parameter tuning-free embedded dynamical mean-field theory (eDMFT) [2]. By combining epitaxial thin-film growth, angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES), and scanning tunneling microscopy\/spectroscopy (STM\/S). Focusing on FeX (X = Se, S, Te) thin films on SrTiO\u2083 (001), we demonstrate a strong dependence of the superconducting transition temperature () on the FeX\u2084 tetrahedral bond angle, highlighting the crucial role of lattice geometry in correlated superconductivity [3]. We further present evidence for topological superconductivity and identify a distinct phase that competes with strong electronic correlations[4]. Remarkably, both the measured superconducting gap and the eDMFT-derived electron-phonon coupling exhibit a dome-shaped dependence on the tetrahedral angle [5]. I will then show how these insights can be extended toward a predictive, materials-by-design framework for topological superconductivity. Applying a multiscale framework to FeTe\u2080.\u2085Se\u2080.\u2085 and FeSe\/GaAs heterostructures, we predict multiple topological superconducting phases and identify experimentally viable materials platforms in which topology, superconductivity, and strong correlations can be engineered in concert [5,6]. Together, these results demonstrate how electronic correlations, lattice geometry, and interface engineering can be harnessed to control superconductivity and topology, providing a pathway toward the rational design of correlated topological quantum materials and future Majorana-based quantum technologies.\n\nReferences:\n[1] S. In this talk, I will revisit some of the enduring challenges at the intersection of language and robotics through three interconnected dimensions: space, time, and common ground. For space, I will discuss grounding language in the 3D world, including reasoning across different spatial perspectives. For time, I will explore how language supports learning about actions, causal relationships, and past experiences to enable long-horizon planning. For common ground, I will examine how language enables humans and robots to establish, maintain, and repair shared understanding of their environment, goals, and intentions. Drawing on past and recent work, I will take stock of where we stand and reflect on the challenges and opportunities. \n\nSpeaker Bio: Joyce Chai is a Professor in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Michigan. Her research interests span from natural language processing and embodied AI to human-AI collaboration. She is fascinated by how experience with the physical world and social interaction shape language learning and language use; and is excited about situated language processing that is sensorimotor-grounded, pragmatically-rich, and cognitively-motivated. Her recent work explores the intersection of language, vision, and action to enable situated communication with embodied agents. Experimenting with multimodal and accessible forms of archaeological data presentation, this study explores how care through time can be documented. Within an archaeological context, the materiality of care can be seen through the intentional making\/unmaking of urban design, architectural features, and infrastructure. Within a historical and contemporary framework, care can be visualized through conservation and the relationships between caretakers and the site itself, drawing attention to the affective aspects of archaeological research. This transdisciplinary project utilizes archival material, LiDAR and 3-dimensional artifact captures, ethnographic conversations, GIS mapping, sound, and experiments with mudbrick, to explore the many different ways of knowing the ancient city of MohenjoDaro.\n\n\nUzma Z. Rizvi is Professor of Anthropology and Urban Studies, in the Department of Social Science and Cultural Studies, Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY. She is also a visiting faculty at Shah Abdul Latif University in Khairpur, Pakistan. Dr. Rizvi\u2019s work intentionally interweaves archaeology with cultural criticism, philosophy, critical theory, art, and design. With over two decades of work on decolonizing methodologies, intersectional and feminist strategies, and transdisciplinary approaches, her work has intentionally pushed disciplinary limits, and demanded ethical decolonial praxis at all levels of engagement, from teaching to research. She is the PI of the Laboratory for Integrated Archaeological Visualization and Heritage (liavh.org), currently working at the 3rd millennium BCE world heritage site of MohenjoDaro, Pakistan.\n\nThe lecture begins at 4PM EST, in person at the Kelsey Museum (Room 125).
